Beyonce's Fans Went Berserk Over "Lemonade" Losing To "Grease:Live" at Emmy Awards

Hold up — the Beyhive is attacking again! Beyoncé's fans are furious that the singer’s Lemonade lost to Fox’s musical production Grease: Live in the Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special category at the 2016 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 18.

Grease: Live directors Thomas Kail and Alex Rudzinski accepted the win at L.A.’s Microsoft Theater. Beyoncé, 35, meanwhile, was not in attendance, even though a seating chart noted that she was scheduled to attend. Additionally, Orange Is the New Black star Laverne Cox — who presented in that category — gushed on the red carpet over the possibility of handing her the award.

Queen Bey dropped the surprise visual album (first on HBO, then iTunes) in April, and performed a medley of the new music (for 16 minutes!) at the MTV Video Music Awards last month. She is currently on the North American leg of her Formation World Tour, but no concert was scheduled for Sunday night. Her next show will be in her home state in Houston at the NRG Stadium on Thursday, September 22.
Despite her Emmy absence, Beyoncé supporters were still rooting for her. “Lemonade lost to grease live we all know becky with the good hair is behind this mess,” one viewer tweeted, referring to lyrics from Bey’s hit “Sorry.”
A second added: “When you're obsessed with musical theatre but you also know Beyonce's Lemonade had more fire than grease. tbh.”

Some even wanted Kanye West to get involved. Back in 2009, the rapper notoriously interrupted Taylor Swift’s VMAs acceptance speech to say that Beyoncé should have won Best Female Video for her “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” track.
“If there was ever a time where it was appropriate for @kanyewest to interrupt an awards show it was tonight when Grease Live beat Lemonade,” the fan joked via Twitter.
“I wouldn’t want to be those guys when Kanye [West] finds out they beat Beyoncé,” host Jimmy Kimmel joked during the show.
