Queen Elizabeth is Hiring. Would You Like to Work For the English Queen?

Looking for a new job? We hear the queen of England is hiring—but you might be less than impressed with what she’s willing to pay.

According to a new listing posted on the royal household’s website, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom is looking for a housekeeper to live and work at Buckingham Palace. But the annual salary is just £16,755—or about $22,283.

Of course, that seems shockingly low. But the small salary comes with a big bonus: The right to live in the palace, with meals provided by the queen’s cooks, and access to all the palace’s recreational facilities. (One can only hope the newest housekeeper could catch a glimpse of Prince Harry at the indoor pool—before being promptly asked to vacate the premises.)
The new housekeeper will also earn a whopping 33 days of vacation and a 15 percent employer-match to her pension. (Many companies no longer offer an employer-match to retirement funds, and those that do rarely come close to 15 percent.)
“This is no standard housekeeping role,” the listing says. “You’ll work, and live, in stunning historic settings, ensuring that they’re presented to their best for colleagues, guests and, of course, the royal family. Aiming for the highest standards, you’ll clean and care for interiors and items from carpets and furniture to historic vases and irreplaceable paintings.”
According to the listing, prior housekeeping experience isn’t a must, though it’s obviously a plus. If you’re interested, you can apply online. And if you get the job, we expect an invitation to come crash at your new pad.
