JOHN LEGEND BERATES HONEY G. DURING HIS MENTORSHIP OF X FACTOR ACTS

Having worked with some of the biggest artists in the world, John Legend knows quality when he sees it, and unfortunately that isn't something he sees in "novelty act" Honey G.
The All Of Me hitmaker has been mentoring the X Factor contestants this week but admitted he didn't quite know how to deal with aspiring rapper Honey G, who will perform Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby on the show on Saturday.

Speaking at an exclusive playback of his new album Darkness & Light, he said: "There's been a lot of conversation about her, I'd heard about her but I hadn't seen any of the episodes leading up to it.

"She has attracted a lot of attention, all I told her was try and be the best version of her that you can be.
"To me, I think part of it is about choosing which songs you do and trying to execute the mechanical of being a good rapper, it's about flow, it's about how you use your voice, how you communicate to the audience so I tried to be as kind and sensitive as I could be.
"You know; people are obviously getting caught up in the novelty of it. The song she had chosen, I thought, heightened the novelty of her because it was referencing another novelty act, which I thought wasn't the best idea, so I told her that. What else do you want me to say?!"

Despite his comments about Honey G, John, who will perform his new single Love Me Now on the results show on Sunday, insisted he loved working with the contestants on the reality TV show.
He said: "I'm really excited about The X Factor, that's the first performance of the single here.
I got to spend some time with all of the contestants, I got to mentor them for all of their performances for Saturday, that was pre-taped so you get to see all my comments for them when it airs."
