Ghostbusters director Paul Feig endured his fair share of Internet trolls and misogyny with the release of his movie reboot this summer, but now fans are sending him positive vibes in the weeks before Halloween.
The filmmaker has been responding to a number of his supporters on social media as they share photos and images of Ghostbusters-themed cosplay and kid costumes for Halloween. “Well, this just choked me up,” he said in response to a fan video at Grand Rapids Comic Con.
Twitter users also praised the film’s cast — Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones — and crew in spite of those who claimed they “ruined their childhoods.” Feig said, “That means more to the team and I than you will ever know.”

Feig and his Ghostbusters cast responded to many of their haters throughout the film’s marketing campaign.
“Four women doing any movie on earth will destroy your childhood?” Melissa McCarthy had said. “I have a visual of those people not having a Ben [Falcone, her husband], not having friends, so they’re just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the Internet. I just hope they find a friend.”
The July release, made on a $150 million budget, has banked almost $229 million globally.
