Shailene Woodley in Tears At Dakota Pipeline Protest Tops This Weekend’s Hottest Celebrity Sightings

Shailene Woodley continues her fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), which is being built on scared grounds of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, and delivered a powerful message about the meaning of Thanksgiving.

Fighting back tears, Woodley told TYT Politics on Thursday (Nov. 25, 2016), “Today is a day that many call Thanksgiving, and it’s a day where kids in elementary school in America are taught false narratives about our native brothers and sisters.”
“Thanksgiving was founded on a massacre,” she added. “And yet we’re here with these cops, with snipers with rubber bullets, and I’m honest — I’m just sick of it. There is no excuse. Where is everyone? Why isn’t everyone standing up and saying something?” Watch the interview below.
On Sunday (Nov. 27, 2016), Woodley participated in a march in Washington D.C. for the cause, posting an Instagram snap of her arriving to the nation’s capital. “#DC we here and so ready to march tomorrow with our native brothers and sisters from #standingrock,” she wrote. “Come join us!! department of justice to washington monument NOON.”

Woodley was arrested in October while participating in a DAPL protest. She and other celebrities, including Mark Ruffalo and Rev. Jesse Jackson, have traveled to North Dakota to participate in the protests.
