It has been a very cruel year with a large number of beloved stars passing away, including Prince, David Bowie, Alan Thicke and recently George Michael and Carrie Fisher.
Now one man has had enough, launching a GoFundMe page to ensure 94-year-old Betty White doesn’t fall victim to the curse of 2016.
“Help 2016 catch these hands if it goes anywhere near Betty White! If she’s okay with it, I will fly to wherever Betty White is and keep her safe till Jan. 1, 2017,” South Carolina-based Demetrios Hrysikos wrote on the GoFundMe page.
He set up the crowdfunding page for the “Golden Girls” actress Tuesday with the goal of raising $2,000. People have donated as much as $100 to Hrysikos’ mission to keep White safe from the perils of 2016. As of Wednesday afternoon, the total was at just over $3,000.
Hrysikos further stated that if White doesn’t want the money then he will donate it to a charity to help new, up-and-coming stars.
“Now, assuming she doesn’t want a strange Greek standing gaurd (sic) outside her door, all monies will be donated to the Spartanburg Little Theater to help craft new stars of stage and screen to carry mantle (sic) of the legends that have left is this year.”
A number of people took to Twitter to thank Hrysikos and also express their concern after Betty White started trending.
And while White has been a regular target of death hoaxes on social media over the last several years, the star is believed to be alive and well as of Dec. 28, 2016.
No word yet if White has accepted Hrysikos’ generous offer to be her personal bodyguard.
