It was a hero’s welcome for Rex the German shepherd.
The two-year-old dog left Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners on Friday, after arriving at the facility with several bullet wounds on Feb. 21.
Rex was injured while protecting his 16-year-old owner, Javier, from intruders who broke into their Des Moines, Washington, home.
Even after being badly beaten and shot in the neck and legs, Rex emerged from the vet’s office walking on his own fours paws with a cone around his head and a smile on his face.
Javier was right by the canine’s side, showing his love and support for the loyal pooch.
According to King5, Javier’s home, which he shares with his family, was burglarized again last week while everyone was out visiting Rex at the vet.

The family plans to relocate to a new home soon for a sense of safety and to leave the painful memories of Rex’s injuries behind them.
