Security guard kills colleague over sharing of $3 tip in Lagos

A security guard at Oko Agbon in the Yaba area of Lagos, has been detained at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for allegedly killing his colleague, Ahmed Oyesiji.

According to a report by Punch, the suspect, Moshood Adigun, reportedly stabbed Oyesiji in the neck with a broken bottle and the victim bled to death instantly...

Adigun was said to have borrowed N4,000 ($39.00) from the deceased sometime ago and had yet to repay it but the relationship between the guards turned sour around 8am on Monday over the sharing of N1,000 ($3.00) gift a passerby gave them at their duty post.

The money was reportedly kept by Oyesiji who was on night duty.  As he wanted to close from work in the morning, it was gathered that Adigun asked him for his N500($01.50) share. But Oyesiji allegedly refused, saying he had converted Adigun’s share to the part payment of the N4,000 debt.  A resident, who gave his name simply as Mayowa, said the ensuing argument between the duo led to a fight, during which Adigun smashed a bottle and stabbed Oyesiji in the neck.

According to the witness, "they worked as security guards in the community. Moshood (Adigun) owed Ahmed (Oyesiji) N4,000. Somebody gave them N1,000 while they were on duty on Monday. Instead of them to share the money, Ahmed said he would not give Moshood his share. He said Moshood’s debt remained N3,500. They argued over it and fought.  “After they were separated, Moshood went for a bottle, broke it and stabbed him in the neck. He was bleeding heavily and within five minutes, he died.”

The suspect was arrested by the police from the Sabo division while the corpse was deposited in the morgue of the Mainland General Hospital, Yaba.
