Sorry, Angela Lansbury fans. The former star of Murder, She Wrote is not going to invade Westeros any time soon.
It’s been widely reported Lansbury might appear in season 7 of HBO’sGame of Thrones.
This is not accurate, the actress’ team told EW on Wednesday.
The rumor began over Labor Day weekend. The original source was a German website for tabloid newspaper Bild, which is described on Wikipedia as “notorious for its mix of gossip, inflammatory language, and sensationalism.”
And yet, despite the source, the idea of Lansbury on the show seemed credible to many. Thrones is full of British stage and screen luminaries, and Lansbury – an Honorary Oscar winner – certainly qualifies. The previous week EW had reported that fellow Oscar winner Jim Broadbent is joining season 7 in a “significant” role. And the Blid report described the 90-year-old Bedknobs and Broomsticksactress’ part as “minor,” appearing in two episodes. So perhaps Lansbury could trade barbs with Lady Olenna (Diana Rigg) in Dorne?
By Wednesday, “Angela Lansbury” was trending on Facebook and searching her name and “Game of Thrones” produced dozens of results on Google News. But this is one Angela Lansbury TV mystery that’s now been solved.
HBO had no comment on the matter. Thrones returns next summer.
