You just can’t win with some people. You’d think that people who despise others who are of the larger size would be happy to see companies encouraging them to engage in a healthy lifestyle by making exercise clothing they can actually fit into right?
Nope. You just can’t win with these people.
Some people are just too blinded by their hatred and are set on being hateful and negative like one man who criticized Academy Sports and Outdoors’ recent campaign for plus-size activewear.
“This is disgusting you are making being fat a good thing people should be ashamed of being fat not proud,” said one angry person on social media.
The man made the comment on model Anna O’Brien’s Instagram page where she posted a photo of herself that appeared in Academy Sports and Outdoors’ campaign.
“For many people when starting a fitness journey, a sporting goods store is the first place they think to buy workout gear,” O’Brien said on Instagram. “Imagine what happens when a plus size woman does just that, and finds nothing in her size? An opportunity to find joy in movement is lost. I am so happy Academy recognized this need and is now providing affordable plus options in store and online at academy.com.”
O’Brien ended up having to explain to some of her haters why their comments are counterproductive.
“[H]i Matt. I’m the woman in this photograph. I wanted to let you know that comments like this don’t help people be more active,” O’Brien said, according toYahoo. “If anything they make people fear judgement and opinions when working out. If you genuinely want to encourage a plus size person to be more active, try cheering them on more and discussing your uncomfortableness with their body less.”
The activewear company also jumped in to have to have their say.
“Hi, James, at Academy, we truly believe every woman should have the same opportunity to enjoy sports and the outdoors. As a result, we will continue to represent a wide range of body types. We’re all different, but our access to an active lifestyle shouldn’t be.”
And there were way more fans that had O’Brien and Academy’s back than the angry and hateful people in the comments. We’re glad that there are people out there who speak up so that the voices for kindness and encouragement can be heard louder.
