65-year-old woman charged with animal cruelty after 44 dogs were found stuffed in plastic bags in freezer

The New Jersey State Police have arrested a 65-year-old woman after finding 44 dead dogs, some of whom had allegedly been there for seven years, and keeping more than 100 dogs in "deplorable and inhumane" conditions inside her home on Oakshade Road in the city. According to a press release, the authorities recovered a total of 161 dogs from the home and the owner, Donna Roberts of Shamong Township, New Jersey, has been charged with animal cruelty in the incident.

Detectives from the Red Lion Station had responded to Roberts' residence on Tuesday, November 13, to aid the Burlington County Health Department with an inspection. However, on arrival, the detectives uncovered evidence of animal cruelty inflicted on the hundreds of dogs living on the property.

The press release states that the odor of animal feces and ammonia "penetrated the inside of the residence" and caused several of the first responders to experience "dizziness and nausea." The detectives found that the odor emanated from the 130 living dogs, as well as 44 deceased dogs that had been packaged in plastic bags and stored in freezers throughout the residence.
The New York Post reports that the 65-year-old claimed the puppies had been stillborn and that she had forgotten about the dead animals after she had put them into bags and stored them in the freezer. "I forgot all about them, they were in the cellar," she was quoted saying. "They were in a freezer, and that's what breeders do when dogs die. I forgot all about them. They were born dead and I didn't kill them. They're making a big deal out of nothing."
While most of the other dogs were evaluated and treated at the scene by animal shelter workers, four of the pups were determined to be in critical condition and had to be transported to an emergency veterinary clinic.
Speaking on the incident, New Jersey State Police's Colonel Patrick Callahan said, "Although the circumstances surrounding the demise of the 44 dogs that were discovered inside plastic bags in freezers remain under investigation, the deplorable and inhumane living conditions the rescued dogs were forced to endure is tragic," adding, "Troopers take an oath to protect and safeguard life, including the lives and well-being of pets, which can be vulnerable to abuse."
Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Cofina said her office was "appalled by the horrendous conditions" the dogs were subjected to and commended the State Police, the Burlington County Health Department and the many volunteers for their "outpouring of support."
The Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals along with their partner shelters were on the scene at the Burlington County residential home to aid authorities. The shelters have taken in over 30 of the dogs and puppies — many of whom have matted fur, skin issues, and overgrown nails among other things — and are currently in the process of giving the animals full medical exams and treatments over the next few days.

The case is being prosecuted by the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office and Roberts has been released with a pending court date. The 65-year-old argued that she had not done anything wrong and is planning to fight her charges of animal cruelty.

Heartbreaking video shows woman weeping over body of her dog who was poisoned by her neighbor

Distressing footage that is being shared around social media shows the heartbreaking moment a woman realizes that her pet golden retriever of eight years has passed away after it was allegedly poisoned by one of her neighbors.
Leewen Zhang, formerly a resident of San Francisco, California, moved to the region of Yubei in Chongqing, southwest China, last year with the intention of moving to Europe later. However, tragedy struck as her dog, Julie, reportedly ate chicken laced with rat poison that was thrown on their lawn by one of her "dog hating" neighbors. Julie died a short while later.

In a detailed Facebook post, Leewen explained her current helpless predicament following the cruel poisoning on October 14. Describing Julie as her "best friend and baby," Leewen wrote how she had adopted the dog when it was just two-months-old and how it had been her assistance dog which was authorized by the state of California.
She said she had moved to China last year but was planning to go to Europe for the long term. Because Julie suffered from heart ailments, Zhang rented an apartment in one of the more well-to-do regions of Yubei but soon found that the area was not conducive for her dog.
Leewen wrote about how she heard that a lot of the residents hated dogs, cursed dogs, and created groups where they could discuss how to kill dogs because they believed that the environment should only be for kids. Furthermore, she said that one of her neighbors abused her and threatened her over four times, even going so far as to say that he would kill her dog.
But just as Leewen was planning to move to Europe after the Chinese New Year this coming February, her dog would be targeted. She explained how "evil people" had wrapped the rat poison into some chicken meat before spreading it on the lawn that Julie loved rolling over.
Zhang said she saw Julie consume the chicken but that she thought nothing of it because she thought it was just some food trash. However, at around 6 pm the same evening, Julie reportedly started to wail and vomit as well as poo blood. Zhang wrote she panicked and started crying, and just 30 minutes later, Julie was no more.
She said she could never forget "her scream, her cry, and her fight for surviving," and that she was still in deep grief over Julie's death. However, because of China's laws against animal cruelty, or lack thereof, it's highly likely that Zhang will never see justice. Police allegedly told her that there was nothing they can do and that hundreds of dogs die by poisoning every day because there were no laws to punish such crimes.
Despite the odds being stacked against her, Zhang said she intends to fight so that no other dog will have to suffer the same fate as Julie. "Julie’s death is sacred," she wrote. " I will not surrender by the current situation. No matter how many difficulties ahead, or even the devils want to kill me. I will keep fighting for animal rights."

Woman mauled to death by family pit bull, raised since puppy, because 'she might have taken some food'

It appears as though a pit bull attack has claimed another life, with a woman in Washington D.C found to have been mauled to death by her pet this past Sunday. D.C Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a home in the 1300 block of Dexter Terrace Southeast in the city at around 6:30 p.m. following reports of a dog attack.
According to the Daily Mail, the victim was later identified as one 55-year-old Angela Smith. She was rushed to the hospital for treatment but she succumbed to the life-threatening wounds she had sustained in the vicious attack. She was unconscious and suffering from what the police described as "multiple trauma wounds" and was pronounced dead a short while later.

Her husband, Rob Frazier, mourned his wife's death and said he had only been gone for 15 minutes when the horrifying incident unfolded. "I left out the house," he told WUSA9 fighting back his tears and banging a trash can. "I just left out the house. It was 15 minutes and I came back. She was dead."
He said Smith had a great relationship with the dog and he was unsure why it may have suddenly attacked her. "They were [sic] really buddies. I'm thinking she might have taken some food or something like that from him and he's real aggressive like that, right?" he told the station. "Maybe, just maybe, he reacted like that. That's what I'm hoping."
Frazier had received the pit as a puppy from his nephew and had had him for the past eight years. But following the attack, workers from the Humane Workers Alliance arrived at the residence at around 9 p.m. to remove the pit bull from the home. A video taken at the scene showed the tan-and-white dog snarling and resisting the workers' attempt to get it into a van.

The pit bull could be seen attempting to bite one of the crew members as he tried to get it into the vehicle, though they finally succeeded in doing so after using a blanket as a hoist to lift its hind legs off the ground. NBC4 reported the comments of a spokesperson for the Alliance who said that the dog had since been humanely euthanized.

Neighbors told Fox5 that they often saw Smith walking the pit bull in the area but that they never saw it show aggression towards any other person. However, they say it was aggressive towards other pets in the neighborhood, with local residents attesting that they would get their animals and small children out of the way when the dog was outside as a safety precaution.

Travis Scott Can't Name Kylie Jenner's Dogs Days After She Debuts Fancy New House for Them

Doggone it!
As part of their GQ cover interview, Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner took the “Kylie Quiz,” a trivia game to find out just how well the rapper knows his makeup mogul counterpart.

Spoiler alert: when it comes to Jenner‘s dogs, Scott needs to do some studying.
After giving him credit for correctly answering the first quiz question, on her toothbrush color, the 20-year-old asked her boyfriend, “What are my dogs’ names?”
“Norman … Lady,” Scott answered tentatively.
“Lady?! Lady?!” she replied between laughs. Though she gave him a few hints — “There are four! They all have ‘eeee’ [sounds]!” — he just couldn’t remember Bambi, Rosy or Harley. Sorry, guys.
Before daughter Stormi was born in February, Italian greyhounds Norman and Bambi were basically Jenner’s babies (and they’ve even had babies of their own!). They’re part of the reality star’s menagerie of pets — which includes chickens — and prior to having their own house, seemingly had their own room in Jenner’s palatial mansion.

She’s also doted on the dogs in the past, throwing them lavish birthday parties and giving them their own Instagram account, which has 461,000 followers despite a lack of recent activity.
During an impromptu Twitter Q&A in March, a fan asked Jenner if she even still had her pets. Her answer? “Of courseeee!”

Dog's head gets stuck in railings Then Its German Shepherd pal comes to lend a paw (video)

A heart-warming video shows a caring canine helping another dog to safety after it got its neck stuck in a railing.

Teacher Edith Govea, 33, captured the adorable rescue mission in the central Mexican city of San Luis de Potosi with her smartphone and shared the footage on Facebook.
It begins with a small white dog which has got stuck trying to wriggle through railings on the top of a courtyard wall and is struggling to push his way through.
Suddenly, a much larger German Shepherd appears and decides to literally lend a paw, using it to try to pull the little dog through the gap.
At first the bigger dog's efforts seem to make no difference so she tries with two paws and even her teeth as she gives the other dog a gentle tug by the scruff of his neck.
And, finally, she manages to drag the little dog far enough through the railings for him to squeeze the rest of the way through and jump down to the ground.
Ms Govea shared the video on Facebook with the caption: "Bunny: 'Hurry!!
"Hurry!! Before my human comes!!', Shorty: 'Help me!!', Bunny: 'Yeah... yeah!!'"
The teacher later revealed that the heartwarming incident happened in the Pavon neighbourhood of San Luis Potosi.

Hero Dog, Rex Who saved Teen Owner from Burglars attack Returns Home with a smile from Hospital

It was a hero’s welcome for Rex the German shepherd.

The two-year-old dog left Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners on Friday, after arriving at the facility with several bullet wounds on Feb. 21.

Rex was injured while protecting his 16-year-old owner, Javier, from intruders who broke into their Des Moines, Washington, home.

Even after being badly beaten and shot in the neck and legs, Rex emerged from the vet’s office walking on his own fours paws with a cone around his head and a smile on his face.

Javier was right by the canine’s side, showing his love and support for the loyal pooch.

According to King5, Javier’s home, which he shares with his family, was burglarized again last week while everyone was out visiting Rex at the vet.

The family plans to relocate to a new home soon for a sense of safety and to leave the painful memories of Rex’s injuries behind them.

Dog hit by bullets, saves owner's life during home invasion, report says

A German Shepard is being hailed as a “four-legged angel” after reportedly getting hit by three bullets while protecting his owner during a home invasion attempt this week in Washington.
Javier Mercado, 16, said the dog, named Rex, came to his rescue after burglars broke into his home Wednesday afternoon in Des Moines.

“I started hearing barking, a lot of barking, and then one of the guys screamed, 'Get the dog! The dog bit me, the dog bit me!'" Mercado told IPRESSTV.
The teen said he called 911 while hiding in a closet and the intruders left when they heard police sirens nearby.

Rex, who is 2 years old, cried out after being hit with a bullet that went into his neck and others that struck his hind legs, according to Mercado.
“I just want to thank my dog,” Mercado told IPRESSTV. “If it wasn’t for him, I feel like I wouldn’t be standing here right now.”

Rex is now recovering at a local veterinary hospital and police have not yet made any arrests in the case, the station added. It was not immediately clear why the house was targeted.
Responding officers, which included a SWAT team, did find a smashed sliding door when they approached the home to inspect the scene, Kiro 7 reported.
“Rex is an angel,” said Julia Cadena, Mercado’s mother. “He’s my four-legged angel that we had at our house.”

Olympian Gus Kenworthy shares His Trip to one of South Korean Dog Farm, Takes Home one Puppy

This year’s Olympics in Pyeongchang mark the second Winter Games freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy took home more than a medal. After rescuing a family of stray dogs from Sochi in 2014, Kenworthy and his boyfriend Matthew Wilkas opted to take home a puppy they dubbed Beemo after touring a dog farm outside Seoul that the Humane Society International allegedly worked to close due to poor conditions. “Yes, there is an argument to be made that eating dogs is a part of Korean culture. And, while don’t personally agree with it, I do agree that it’s not my place to impose western ideals on the people here,” Kenworthy wrote when posting about his trip. “The way these animals are being treated, however, is completely inhumane and culture should never be a scapegoat for cruelty.”

While the Olympian attempted to separate the concept of raising dogs for consumption in his Instagram post and the reportedly “heart-wrenching” conditions he saw, Kenworthy also tweeted, “Dogs are friends. Not food,” kicking off a backlash from people who felt that, as a visitor from the United States to South Korea, that’s not exactly his call to make. When questioned about the poor conditions facing other livestock animals, including those Kenworthy might find more appropriate to eat, the skier tweeted that dogs constitute a smaller, “more manageable” pool of animals to help. He wrote, “Just b/c 10 things are wrong doesn’t mean working to solve 1 issue is bad b/c it leaves 9 other problems. It’s still positive change.”

Woman Caught her neighbor's dog riding her pony by itself and she videoed it

A dog riding a one-eyed pony into the night is surely a spectacle that needs video proof. A Missouri woman made sure to get exactly that.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Callie Schenker pulled into her driveway Thursday to the sight of her neighbor's Corgi sitting on her horse, Cricket. She recorded a 15-second video of the pony trotting away into the darkness as the canine sits atop, looking at the camera.
The 22-year-old posted the video on Facebook with the message, "I can't make this stuff up!!! So we pull back in our driveway tonight and this is what we see. This is not our dog! But apparently him and Cricket the one-eyed wonder pony are best friends."
The video had received 5.3 million views as of Tuesday morning.
Schenker says the Corgi's owners are Mennonites who avoid going online, so they likely don't know their dog is gaining internet fame.
