Gal Gadot Refuses To Make 'Wonder Woman' Sequel Unless Brett Ratner is Out

"Wonder Woman" star Gal Gadot is continuing to battle accused Hollywood sexual harasser Brett Ratner by refusing to sign for a superhero sequel unless the movie-maker is completely killed from the franchise.

A Hollywood source tells Page Six that Gadot — who last month backed out of a dinner honoring Ratner, where she was due to present him with an award — is taking a strong stance on sexual harassment in Hollywood and doesn’t want her hit "Wonder Woman" franchise to benefit a man accused of sexual misconduct.

Brett Ratner (2017 Invision)

Ratner’s production company RatPac-Dune Entertainment helped produce "Wonder Woman" as part of its co-financing deal with Warner Bros. The movie has grossed more than $400 million internationally, and Ratner’s company will take a healthy share of the profits. A Warner Bros. insider explained, "Brett made a lot of money from the success of 'Wonder Woman,' thanks to his company having helped finance the first movie. Now Gadot is saying she won’t sign for the sequel unless Warner Bros. buys Brett out [of his financing deal] and gets rid of him."

The source added of Israeli-born Gadot, "She's tough and stands by her principles. She also knows the best way to hit people like Brett Ratner is in the wallet. She also knows that Warner Bros. has to side with her on this issue as it develops. They can’t have a movie rooted in women’s empowerment being part-financed by a man accused of sexual misconduct against women."

This past week, Warner Bros. announced it was severing ties with Ratner amid multiple sexual-harassment allegations leveled against him by actresses including Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge. Ratner has vehemently denied the allegations through his attorney, Marty Singer.

A Very Different Introduction For Wonder Woman Would’ve Be Given To Us By George Miller’s ‘Justice League’

There’s little doubt that Wonder Woman has injected new life into Warner Bros’ DC Comics properties, even if the path they’re taking seems to be a little confusing. With Justice League landing in theaters only two months from now and Wonder Woman hitting digital video, it seems fitting that some would want to look at what might’ve been with George Miller’s Justice Leagueproject that ended before it was able to get off the ground.

Jay Baruchel stopped by the Happy Sad Confused podcast according to Entertainment Weekly and Miller’s Justice League was the topic of discussion, especially the way he planned to introduce Wonder Woman in the film. Baruchel would’ve played Maxwell Lord in the film — which might seem like an odd choice but it is comparable to Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor — and he seemed very excited at the prospect judging at his reaction to how Wonder Woman would’ve made her debut according to EW:
“The first time you see Wonder Woman, the opening scene on Themyscira, it was just her,” Baruchel said. “It’s her on top of a steed and she stood about half a kilometer away from a Minotaur. The Minotaur has a battle-ax in his hand and she just rushes him. All the Amazons are there cheering her on, and she just beheads him. Gets off her steed and holds up the Minotaur thing — and doesn’t say a goddamned thing. I was like, ‘That’s the Wonder Woman I want to see!’ It would have been special.”
IGN adds that the film was very to close to happening, with most of the roles filled out, including Fury Road‘s Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, but the WGA strike in 2007 and change in Australia’s tax laws derailed the project. And while meeting Wonder Woman as a full-on bad ass would’ve only been a slight difference from what we saw in Patty Jenkins’ film, the possible detour she takes later on would’ve been jarring to say the least:
“I turn him into full red-eye Superman, and then there’s this big ass fight between him and Wonder Woman, where he breaks her f—ing wrists and sh–,” Baruchel added. “And then I die halfway through the movie, and then my consciousness is uploaded into a f—ing mainframe and I’m an evil computer.”
This rips a storyline directly out of DC Comics and the sprawling Infinite Crisisstoryline that was released back in 2006. In one of the prelude stories, Maxwell Lord ends up taking control of Superman’s mind and pitting him against both Batman and Wonder Woman. The only way to stop the Man of Steel is to kill Lord, something Wonder Woman achieves by snapping his neck — similar to Superman’s controversial choice in Man of Steel. The big difference is there was no remorse for the fallen in the comics.
Going in this direction definitely would’ve affected how the character was perceived by the audience, including all those little girls looking to dress like Gal Gadot for Halloween. While it might’ve been good for the film, it probably wasn’t best for the character to go that route. Luckily we now have a version that works on the big screen and has arguably become the best entry in Warner’s new DCEU.

The Internet Is Getting Angry With New Wonder Woman's Armpits

Leave it to the internet to notice something so specific. People are upset with Wonder Woman‘s armpits, and they’re making their voices heard.

The trailer for the new Wonder Woman movie was finally released, and it’s clear that Diana Prince (played by Gal Gadot) is going to kick some major ass. She’s fierce, brilliant, and an all-around badass, to say the least. But her badass-ery is not what the internet is talking about right now. It’s her hairless armpits.
In the trailer, we see Diana lifting a car (yes, a car) and throwing it down a street. We’re able to get a solid view of her armpits, which happen to be freshly shaven and seem to be digitally bleached. As you can imagine, people are pissed.

Because, according to fans, how does Wonder Woman have time to groom her armpits when she’s busy fighting the conflicts of the world?

More specifically, why would an Amazon with no previous contact with the outside world care about hair under her armpits?
Here are the pits in question:

Warner Bros.

Fans have taken to Twitter to discuss their concerns about her lack of armpit hair.

Just doing some pod-related Twitter searching, and until this point I hadn't realised how badly I wanted Wonder Woman to have armpit hair.

controversial hot take:
i wish  had visible armpit hair.

she was raised on an island of women w/no schick advertisements!

Just speaking aesthetically, the new Wonder Woman trailer had me wishing she had armpit hair.
While we understand where fans are coming from, here’s the thing: WonderWoman can still be symbol of female empowerment even if she shaves her armpits. The two things are not mutually exclusive.

Plus, in the history of Wonder Woman, she’s never had hair under her arms.

First female superhero film for 17 years and all the talk is about her armpits...
Sure, it’s probably unlikely that a superhero like Wonder Woman would have the time shave her pits. But she has to make time to shower at some point, right? There’s no way for her to have oil-free hair without a little rinse off. So while she was bathing, perhaps she decided to shave. It takes less than 30 seconds to shave both armpits, so we’re pretty sure she’d be able to make time for that.

United Nations Has Stop Making Wonder Woman Their Ambassador

Wonder Woman is no longer a United Nations ambassador.

Less than two months after the U.N. named the iconic DC Comics superhero an honorary ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls, the international organization has ended the campaign, which was intended to run through 2017.

A U.N. spokesman confirmed the news to Reuters, adding that past campaigns using fictional characters often ran for mere days or weeks. Past U.N. honorary ambassadors include Winnie the Pooh, Tinker Bell, and Angry Birds.

When the Wonder Woman campaign was first announced in October, some criticized the U.N. for choosing “an overtly sexualized” character instead of a real-life feminist role model, and almost 45,000 people have signed a petition asking the U.N. to reconsider. The U.N. itself has also faced increased criticism lately for its own lack of female leadership.

“Although the original creators may have intended wonder Woman to represent a strong and independent ‘warrior’ woman with a feminist message, the reality is that the character’s current iteration is that of a large breasted, white woman of impossible proportions, scantily clad in a shimmery, thigh-baring body suit with an American flag motif and knee-high boots — the epitome of a ‘pin-up’ girl,” the petition read. “This is the character that the United Nations has decided to represent a globally important issue — that of gender equality and empowerment of women and girls.”

In October, on-screen Wonder Women Lynda Carter and Gal Gadot united for a U.N. ceremony honoring the character in her 75th year, with both actresses testifying about Wonder Woman’s cultural impact.

“In some magical and mystical way, there lies within each of us Wonder Woman,” Carter told the audience at the time. “She is real. She lives and she breathes. I know this because she lives in me, and she lives in the stories that these women tell me, day in and day out. I see it in the letters and in the stories. I read it on social media. I see it in the tears that fall from the eyes of the women who say it saved them from some awful thing that they endured — because they saw that they could do something great.”
