That was so quick Depp! Amber Heard called out former husband Johnny Depp for donating her $7 million divorce settlement directly to two charities.
“Amber Heard appreciates Johnny Depp’s novel interest in supporting two of her favorite charities, the ACLU for domestic violence and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. This is great and unexpected news,” the statement, which was shared with Us Weekly on Thursday, August 25, reads. “However, if Johnny wishes to change the settlement agreement, we must insist that he honor the full amount by donating $14 million to charity, which, after accounting for his tax deduction, is equal to his $7 million payment obligation to Amber. We would also insist that the full amount be paid immediately and not drawn out over many years.
“Anything less would be a transparent attempt by Johnny’s counsel, Laura Wasser and Patti Glaser, to reduce their client’s true payment by half under the guise of newfound concern for charities that he has never previously supported,” the statement continued.
On Wednesday, August 24, both the ACLU and the Children’s Hospital received their first donations from Depp, 53, following the former couple’s joint statement on August 16.
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love,” the former couple said in the joint statement. “Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future.”
A rep for the Alice Through the Looking Glass actor revealed to Ipresstv in a statement Thursday that Depp was planning to issue the remainder of the “monies to each charity in the name of Amber Heard” in installments.
“Ms. Heard’s generosity in giving to these wonderful causes is deeply respected,” the rep told Ipresstv.
Earlier this month, Heard, 30, and Depp released a joint statement determining that they had come to a settlement agreement, and that the actress was planning to donate the entire amount to charity.
“As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves,” Heard, 30, said in a statement at the time.
