MTV VMAs 2016: Kanye West Mysteriously Debuts New Video For ‘Fade’

Kanye West's performance at the 2016 MTV VMAs was shrouded in mystery, and the mercurial rapper didn't disappoint.

The 39-year-old was famously given four minutes to do whatever he wanted by the network, and he left them hanging by reportedly not even showing up for his rehearsal hours before showtime.
The "peformance" turned out to be mostly a monologue, with Yeezy first revealing that he'd be unveiling a new video, and noting that his "Famous" might lose to Beyonce's "Lemonade" — which would be OK since he always roots for Queen Bey (LOL, Taylor).

Then he shifted and got surprisingly serious, calling for peace and love in these violent times, and even addressing his own depression. "If you think about last week it was 22 people murdered in Chicago," he says. "People come to me like, 'Man that’s right, tell Taylor.' Bro, like, I love all ya’ll. That’s why I called her!"
He also discussed his idols, naming President Harry S. Truman, Henry Ford, Walt Disney, and Steve Jobs. Then, after some more seemingly random rambling, it was time for his new video.
The video was for his new song "Fade," and consisted almost solely of singer and actress Teyana Taylor dancing and working out in a thong and crop top.

Kanye himself did not appear in the video, but Cleveland Cavs guard Iman Shumpert did make a surprise appearance alongside some sheep at the end.
The hip hop star has been branching out as an artist more and more recently, with his controversial "Famous" video being praised as legitimate art by respected German filmmaker Werner Herzog.

The father-of-two also recently opened an art exhibit featuring the video's nude wax figures in L.A. — and attended its opening in robot form. But even after that display, his VMAs performance still takes the cake for most bizarre Kanye appearance this week!
