IPRESSTV: Alleged Road Rage Incident Lead To Former NFL Player Joe McKnight Being Fatally Shot and Killed

Former NFL player Joe McKnight was shot and killed in Thursday afternoon in Terrytown, Louisiana after a conflict at a highway intersection, according to The Times-Picayune. He was 28.

McKnight, who recently played for the Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders, was allegedly trying to apologize to another man in a busy intersection, when the man shot him more than once, according to Sports Illustrated.

The shooting occurred at about 3 p.m. A witness told the Times-Picayune that the shooter stood over McKnight after shooting him and said, “I told you don’t you f— with me,” before firing again.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said police received a call at about 2:43 p.m. Thursday of a shooting, according to ESPN.

“Our officers arrived on the scene and immediately began giving CPR to an individual who was shot and lying on the ground,” he said.

Normand told reporters the suspect, Ronald Gasser, stayed on the scene and surrendered his weapon to authorities. He was taken into custody and questioned.

“Mr. Gasser did, in fact, shoot Mr. McKnight,” Normand said. “We will be releasing additional details as we get through these interviews with these witnesses. Mr. McKnight did not have a gun in his possession.”

Colonel John Fortuanto, a police spokesman, told the Los Angeles Times that the incident is being investigated as a possible road rage incident. He identified Gasser as a 54-year-old white male.

McKnight was born in River Ridge, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans, and played three seasons at the University of Southern California (2007-2009) under coach Pete Carroll. He totaled 15 touchdowns while with the Trojans and 2,755 yards from scrimmage.

The New York Jets made him a fourth-round pick in 2010. He spent three seasons with the team, before being released from the team in August 2013. He later signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in January 2014, playing two games that year and scoring two touchdowns, before tearing an Achilles tendon.
