Gigi Hadid Is Suspending Herself From Social Media Spotlight For The Time Being

Gigi Hadid is one of the most famous supermodels in the world right now, but despite the millions of headlines and Insta updates, there's still a lot we don't know about her. Today we learned a few more things about the Reebok #PerfectNever campaign spokesperson when she hosted a panel with Ruby Rose, Aly Raisman, Zoe Kravitz, and Lena Dunham, to talk about social media, fitness, health, and more. Scroll down to learn 10 new things about Gigi.

1. Eggs are a huge part of her diet.

"I do like eggs, but all different ways. I loved baked eggs. I like tomato and bacon. There's a Middle Eastern spice called, zaatar, so I'll do eggs and zaatar. I love eggs! In general I like fresh ingredients. I'm not a salad and meat type of person; to me, that's boring. I also like making tomato soup from scratch with grilled cheese dippers on the side. If I can cook it with ingredients that I know are good, then I'll eat anything. Carbs, or whatever!"

2. She's taking a social media breather.

"I'm taking a month off, actually, during New Years. I'm not deleting my account, I'm just taking the apps off my phone. It's empowering, not just for people in the spotlight, for everyone. At the end of the day I'm choosing what I'm showing you. A lot of the world feels so entitled to other peoples' lives, which is so crazy. I'm going to take a break when I feel like it, and when I come back and share it with you, if you want to be supportive and still follow me, that's great. But, if you're going to be upset that I need to be human for a month, than maybe I don't want your follow anyway."

3. She still talks to her high school volleyball coach.

"[During stressful times] I try to sit myself down and say, 'if it wasn't for the world's opinion, do I think I did a good job?' 'Would my coaches in high school be proud of me?' Those little things I try and think of. When my high school volleyball coach will text me and say, 'I think that was bad ass.' That's what makes me happy."

4. She's never taken a sick day.

"You know, I've never taken a sick day. I just realized! I feel that pressure of not taking time for yourself because you don't want it to affect your professionalism."

5. Screaming helps her release stress.

"Literally, screaming into a pillow helps. One time I was on set for a beach shoot, and my mom said 'go scream into the ocean. It relieves the tension.'

6. She's not a fan of squats.

"They're painful, and you have to do so many for them to work. Recently for the VS show, I put a sticky note in my kitchen, and every time I walked past the squats sticky note, I had to do 15 squats. Its a good trick because it reminds you that you have to have integrity with yourself. No one else is watching, so I have to just do it for myself."

7. She has a thyroid disease.

"My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto's disease. It's a thyroid disease, and it's now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didn't want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that's good."

8. At the gym, she's just one of the guys.

"What's great about boxing is that I couldn't come to New York and sign up for Equinox, and go running. It was not good. So, I knew I needed to find something that gave me a coach, gave me a family— so that when I walk in, it's like my big brothers. They're like 'what up!' They don't care about who I am. That's what I needed, and they don't care about what my body looks like. They care that I give a good punch, and that's how I want to be judged. That's what makes me proud of myself."

9. She doesn't think she got 'Model of the Year' because of photos.

"People are like 'what does that mean work wise,' or 'what does her body look like compared to all of the other girls' bodies' or 'her body of work compared to everyone else's.' That was voted on by 1000 people that I worked with this year, and I don't think half of them said, 'Gigi's pictures were the best of my pictures this years,' but maybe they said, 'I had a great day shooting with Gigi. She gave all her energy. She really tried to understand the concept, and showed interest.' I hope that's 50 percent of why I got the award, not just the pictures."

10. She calls Lena Dunham for advice.

"You find your family in other places. We have a great friend group where we can all come to each other all the time, and just say, 'well, that was shit,'" Gigi says, laughing. Lena Dunham, who was also on the panel, adds, "Gigi, and I were on the phone for hours talking about a social media incident, and we were talking about the fact that sometimes you just have to shut the computer down. It's a literal nightmare, and you say 'it's okay, I can be tough, but you shouldn't have to."
