What Is Up With Harry Styles's Tour Openers

Harry Styles, who defied the gods (and every chart trend) to release a definitively dad rock record as his solo debut earlier this year, has announced the openers for his gigantic world tour and they are not! commercial pop! singers! Can you tell!?

Earlier this week Styles announced that MUNA, the rising synth pop trio from Los Angeles, would be opening his North American and Europe shows in October. But on Thursday he announced he was extending his tour in 2018 and would be bringing the soul artist and Chloe Mackenzie favorite Leon Bridges (cool), the Grammy-winning country artist Kacey Musgraves (whoa), and rock band Warpaint (wait, what?) along as openers on different legs of the tour.

When Styles released his self-titled debut earlier this year he made it clear he wanted to play music he actually wanted to listen to. And it seems like he’s doing the same with his eclectic list of openers, especially with Musgraves:

He also followed Warpaint, who are on the indie label Rough Trade, on Twitter back in October not long after they released their third album Heads Up and it seems Bridges has been a Styles fan for a minute.

We get it, Harry, you’re not a pop star anymore.
