A homeless man has been praised for his honesty after he handed in a handbag that had £450 inside.
James John McGeown spotted a car outside Glasgow’s Sheriff Court with its passenger window down and saw a handbag in the front seat with £400 cash inside and £50 in the centre of the car.
After looking for the owner of the car, James decided he would wait for them until they returned.
But after two-and-a-half hours of waiting in the pouring rain, he decided to take out the bag and take it to the nearest lawyers office for safe-keeping.
When owner John McMonagle eventually returned to his car with his colleague Alyshia Orford, he was stunned to see a note telling him the bag was safe in the office.
Now, John, who is owner of McMonagle’s chip shop in Clydebank, is praising James for his generosity.
He told Glasgow Live: ‘I was in shock, I couldn’t believe that the guy never took a penny.
‘To think he is sleeping on the streets tonight when he could have stolen the money and paid for a place to stay.
‘It just proves there’s decent guys out there and especially at Christmas.’
He is yet to find him again though and is urging people to get in touch if they see James and donate to a GoFundMe page set up for him.
The page has already raised more than £4,000 in less than 24 hours.
