Woman is accused of 'pouring wine on Warhol art after her first date'

A woman has been accused of causing damage worth at least $300,000 (£222,000) to a prominent lawyer's art collection at the end of their first date.

Lindy Lou Layman, from Dallas, appeared in a Houston courtroom on Tuesday after she was charged with felony criminal mischief over the alleged incident at the home of Tony Buzbee on 23 December.

Buzbee claims the 29-year-old woman became intoxicated and aggressive and smashed two $20,000 (£14,800) sculptures.

She also allegedly poured wine on paintings, including two Andy Warhol pieces, each valued at $500,000 (£369,000).

Ms Layman's lawyer, Justin Keiter, insisted his client, who is free on a $30,000 (£22,000) bond, was a "great person" and that said she "disagreed with Mr Buzbee's rendition of the facts".However, he declined to outline his client's version of events and said it would be saved for a courtroom hearing.

In the past, Mr Buzbee has represented several high-profile clients, including ex-Texas governor Rick Perry in an abuse-of-power case.
