Tornado warning Releases for swath of Brevard County

Update, 11:20 a.m.:

Brevard County is under yet another tornado warning as Hurricane Irma starts impacting Florida, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

The weather service expanded the range of the latest warning into include much of central and southern Brevard, including Melbourne, Palm Bay and beachside cities and towns.

More than 250,000 county residents fall under the new warning, which will remain in effect until 12 p.m.

Update, 11:05 a.m.:

Another tornado warning has been issued, this time for southern Brevard County, until 11:30 a.m.

The affected area is just south of Melbourne.

A tornado warning covering Palm Bay and West Melbourne was cancelled early after the storm band that prompted the warning grew weak, National Weather Service officials reported. It was the second tornado warning issued for the south Brevard County area.

Residents were urged to take cover before weather officials cancelled the warning. "The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe limits, and no longer appears capable of producing a tornado. Therefore the warning will be allowed to expire. However heavy rain and strong winds will continue as Hurricane Irma lifts north from the Florida Keys," the weather service reported.

The warning was originally set to expire at 9:45 a.m.

"It was radar indicated," said Peggy Glitto, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne, of the storm formation that set off the warning. "We should begin seeing some of the heavy bands (from Hurricane Irma) coming up."

A tornado warning means that conditions indicate a tornado or funnel cloud may be in the affected area. Brevard County remains under a tornado watch until 12 p.m.

The weather service also reports wind gusts of up to 45 mph. Tropical storm winds are expected to arrive in Brevard sometime around 2 p.m. and then spread toward the north end.

Tucker Carlson Blast Jennifer Lawrence for Linking Trump To Hurricanes Cause

Tucker Carlson had some strong words for actress Jennifer Lawrence, who said Hurricanes Harvey and Irma are “Mother Nature’s rage" and "wrath” for America for electing Donald Trump and not accepting man-made climate change.

"It's been proven through science that climate change is due to human activity," Lawrence said in an interview with British network Channel 4 while promoting her new film "Mother!" "And we continue to ignore it. And the only voice that we really have is through voting.”

She added that it was "really startling" to see Trump win the presidency.

“You know, you’re watching these hurricanes now, and it’s really hard, especially while promoting this movie, not to feel Mother Nature’s rage [and] wrath," Lawrence said.

"Why is it as people get richer and more famous, sometimes they get sillier and more out of touch?" Tucker wondered on his show tonight.

"The Hill" media reporter Joe Concha said Lawrence appears to be suffering from "acute Trump derangement syndrome."

"Apparently side effects include blaming a sitting president for hurricanes hitting the U.S. mainland during hurricane season," Concha said.

Tucker noted that Lawrence received very little blowback from the mainstream media for her comments.

"Here you have one of the most famous actresses in the world on the eve of what looks like a catastrophe using the storm and the impending human suffering to make a really stupid political statement," Tucker said. "You'd think like the press would jump on her."

He concluded that "being a celebrity is bad for your soul."

Five former US presidents creates Hurricane Harvey fundraiser

All five living former U.S. presidents came together Thursday to ask their fellow Americans to support Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

“One American Appeal,” a fundraiser designed to help victims of Harvey recover, is supported by all five former living U.S. presidents — Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

President Donald Trump tweeted his support for the cause Thursday night, saying, "We will confront ANY challenge, no matter how strong the winds or high the water. I'm proud to stand with Presidents for #OneAmericaAppeal."

“As the nation carefully watches the advance of Hurricane Irma, the presidents stand ready to expand their appeal to help those affected by that storm,” a news release said.

The appeal to Americans, and those who can help worldwide, came after the former presidents “were inspired to come together to lend their support to the people and communities affected and to the first responders, organizations, volunteers and neighbors who have been providing assistance to victims.”

All five presidents spoke in a PSA to coincide with the announcement of One America Appeal.

“Hurricane Harvey brought terrible destruction,” said President Clinton. “But it also brought out the best in humanity.”

“As former presidents, we wanted to help our fellow Americans begin to recover,” President Obama said.

“Our friends in Texas, including Presidents Bush 41 and 41, are doing just that,” added President Carter.

“People are hurting down here. But as one Texan put it, ‘We’ve got more love in Texas than water,’” George W. Bush said, before his father added: “We love you, Texas.”

The George H. W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation has created an account for funds to go directly to those affected by Harvey “to ensure 100 cents out of every dollar goes to assist hurricane victims.”

While One America Appeal was created to help Harvey victims, “efforts are underway to evaluate how this appeal can help those affected” by Hurricane Irma, too.

Pink Gives $500,000 to Assist Hurricane Harvey Relief

Raise your glass! Pink has donated a half a million dollars to the Red Cross to help aid the relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

The “So What” singer, 37, shelled out a whopping $500,000, the organization confirmed on Twitter on Friday, September 1, thanking the Grammy winner for her enormous generosity.

“Thank you @Pink from the bottom of our ❤️ for your donation of a half million dollars to @RedCross #HurricaneHarvey relief efforts!” Red Cross Los Angeles tweeted.

They also posted a video of volunteers in their red shirts yelling “Thank you, Pink!” and blowing a kiss at the camera.“We’re partial to red, but pink is great, too. Thank you @Pink for your generous donation to our #HurricaneHarvey relief efforts,” the charity organization captioned it.

Pink joins the growing list of celebrities who have donated to the cause including Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tyler Perry, Sandra Bullock, Kim Kardashian, Kevin Hart and more.

The devastating storm hit on Friday, August 25, destroying Houston and dozens of other surrounding cities. At least 44 people have been confirmed dead as of Saturday, September 2.

“The American Red Cross is working around the clock along the Gulf Coast to help the thousands of people whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Harvey,” the humanitarian organization’s website reads.

Taylor Swift Gives A Significant Amount of Money to Houston Food Bank After Hurricane Harvey

Giving back. Taylor Swift is the latest star to step up and lend a helping hand to those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas.

According to the Houston Food Bank, the 27-year-old entertainer donated an unknown, but “sizable” amount of money to aid victims of the devastating storm, which has cost at least 44 people their lives.

"Taylor Swift has generously made a very sizable donation to Houston Food Bank in honor of her mother who graduated from the University of Houston," the facility wrote of the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer on Facebook on Friday, September 1. "We thank you, Taylor, and we thank everyone for donating to help rebuild our community. #houstonstrong."

Although the Grammy winner has not commented on the donation herself, she joins a list of charitable celebs that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock, Tyler Perry, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, and NFL player J.J. Watt.

This isn’t the first time Swift has shelled out cash for those in need either. Over the years, she’s donated money to sick fans, victims of the 2016 Tennessee wildfires and the 2008 Iowa flood. Not to mention, she’s pledged to help out victims of sexual assault in wake of winning a symbolic $1 in the groping trial against former DJ David Mueller.

As the Texas Gulf Coast reels from the damage and flooding from Hurricane Harvey, President Donald Trump returned the the state on Saturday to meet with families whose lives have been upended and volunteers assisting with the rescue and recovery efforts.

After arriving in Houston early on Saturday afternoon, Trump and First Lady Melania Trumpvisited with those displaced by the storm at the city’s NRG Stadium, which is serving as a relief center. Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner were at the airport to greet Air Force One today, and are joining the president as he visits with evacuees and volunteers.

During the stadium visit, the president at one point chatted with members of the press, and spoke optimistically about the recovery effort and what he's seen, saying "things are working out well," and that the recovery effort has been a "beautiful thing" for the country.

"They were just happy, we saw a lot of happiness," the president said of his interactions with storm victims. "It's been really nice, it's been a wonderful thing... as tough as this was, it's been a wonderful thing I think even for the country to watch and the world to watch, it's been beautiful."

Asked about whether he saw damage and flooding from his window as he traveled, Trump said “there’s a lot of water, but it’s leaving pretty quickly, but there’s a lot of water.”

As Trump walked around the center, he stopped to chat with victims and volunteers, posing for selfies and flashing his signature thumbs up for the cameras. The first area that the president visited seemed to be a play area for children. At one point, a young child ran up to the president and gave him a hug. A few other kids joined in, and the president lifted one up in his arms for a moment.

Trump also spoke today of the letter the White House sent to Congress Friday night formally requesting $7.85 billion for Harvey response efforts, saying he was hopeful that the funds will be approved quickly. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy's office says the House will vote on Harvey funding next week.

Throughout the visit, the first lady could also be seen hugging, smiling, and speaking with victims.

On his second stop in Texas today, Trump visited a church in Houston that's serving as a distribution center, and offered his congratulations to Abbott on the recovery effort so far and predicted that Texas will defy expectations with the pace of its recovery.

“I want to congratulate the governor. I want to congratulate everybody who has worked so hard. It's been an incredible five days, six days. Seems like it was much longer, but it's going so well that it's going fast,” he said.

After his remarks, Trump joined an assembly line of volunteers outside the church and helped place boxes of supplies, cases of water, and Red Cross buckets into the back of a row of cars.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin and acting Homeland Security Elaine Duke are along for the trip, as are Chief of Staff John Kelly and Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert.

This is Trump's second trip to Texas since Harvey rammed into the southeast part of the state on August 25. On Tuesday, he visited Corpus Christi and Austin, but opted to spend time with state and local officials rather than meeting hurricane survivors or touring the damage firsthand.

Harvey is the first natural disaster Trump has had to respond to during his presidency. He has also pledged to give $1 million from his personal funds to help disaster relief in Texas and Louisiana, according to the White House.

Before departing from Ellington Field later on Saturday afternoon, Trump said thank you to service members and offered more congratulations. While on the tarmac he was greeted by a group of Texas lawmakers, including Rep. Michael McCaul, Rep. Pete Olson, Rep. Randy Weber, and Rep. Al Green and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee -- two outspoken critics of his administration in Congress.

After spending time greeting service members lined up to take photos with their cell phones and shake hands, the president greeted Coast Guard members.

He then offered some impromptu remarks, congratulating them for saving some 11,000 people. He took a moment to take a crack at the media in the process, saying the Coast Guard went “into winds the media would not go into, they would not go into those winds, unless it’s a really good story.”

After Houston, Trump headed to Lake Charles, Louisiana for a visit to the National Guard Armory.

Upon landing in Louisiana, he and the first lady were met on the tarmac by Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, Sen. Bill Cassidy and Sen. John Kennedy, and a group of Louisiana congressmen.

Inside the armory, the Trumps met with troops, volunteers with the Cajun Navy and civilians, before departing for the return flight to Joint Base Andrews.

Hurricane Harvey Donations: Tyler Perry donates $250K to Joel Osteen

Tyler Perry just took “Love thy neighbor” to the next level.

The “Boo 2! A Madea Halloween” star donated $1 million to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts — with $250,000 of that cash going to Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston.

Osteen, 54, came under fire this week after he allegedly refused to open Lakewood’s doors to residents who were displaced by severe flooding from Hurricane Harvey last week.

The televangelist denied shutting out Harvey victims, blaming flooding in the building for the delay. He also claimed the city of Houston requested that the megachurch, which seats 16,800, be used as a distribution center instead of a shelter. Lakewood eventually welcomed residents Monday.

Perry, 47, explained his decision and defended his longtime friend Osteen in a Facebook video Thursday.

“I know that there’s been some controversy about Joel Osteen and him not opening doors of the church. Let me tell you something: Joel and Victoria are amazing people. There is no way they would lock people out of the church and not let people in for shelter,” he continued. “There were some safety concerns. I spoke to them on the phone, and it all made perfect sense to me so before you just run and judge somebody really quick, you need to know the whole circumstances … This million dollars, I’m breaking it up into quarters. I’m sending $250,000 to Lakewood to make sure that they can get all the supplies that people need. I know that they will, I know for sure that they will, because that’s the kind of person he is.”

Perry is also donating $250,000 to Beyoncé’s pastor, Rudy Rasmus, though he didn’t disclose what other organizations would receive the remaining $500,000.

The move came after the actor and writer noted difficulty in finding the right charities to deal with the aftermath properly.

“I’m trying to figure out how to help, but I’ve given millions of dollars to charities in the past that never got to the people it was meant for,” he wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. “I know lots of people want to give and help but be careful. You really need to know how much of your donations actually get to the people before you choose an organization to give to.”

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Foundation Gives $1 Million to Hurricane Harvey Relief

Giving back. The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation made a $1 million donation to the newly established United Way Harvey Recovery Fund in the wake of the destruction and flooding in Southeastern Texas and Louisiana caused by Hurricane Harvey.

The United Way Harvey Recovery Fund will donate 100 percent of contributions toward recovery and financial support for victims. “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Leonardo DiCaprio and his foundation,” United Way Worldwide President and CEO Brian Gallagher said in a statement. “Responding to Hurricane Harvey requires the best of all of us — and that’s what this gift represents. United Way’s Harvey Recovery Fund will provide much-needed help for the communities along the Gulf Coast where lives have been changed forever."

DiCaprio, 42, who established his foundation in 1998 to benefit environmental projects and climate-related causes, held a star-studded fundraiser last month to raise money for the foundation. He hosted a gala in St-Tropez, France, and auctioned off a date with himself and his Titanic costar, Kate Winslet. The duo also reunited with their costar Billy Zane at the event.

The Wolf of Wall Street star isn’t the only celeb to make a generous donation to help the people of Houston and nearby cities. Sandra Bullock, who owns a home in Austin and spends much of her time there, also pledged $1 million to the cause. Miley Cyrus announced that she’s contributing $500,000.

Kevin Hart started the Hurricane Harvey Relief Challenge on Monday, August 28, in which he called on his famous friends to open their wallets and match his $25,000 donation. Dozens of stars such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jennifer Lopez, Alex Rodriguez, DJ Khaled, Nicki Minaj, T.I. and Chris Brown accepted the challenge. The Kardashian-Jenner sisters and mom Kris Jenner teamed up to donate a combined $500,000.

Beyoncé is also doing what she can to help her hometown of Houston. She revealed that she’s working closely with her team at BeyGOOD and her Houston-based pastor to implement a plan of action.
