Bella Hadid Debuts Her First Appearance on Victoria's Secret Fashion Show With Ex 'The Weeknd'

Bella Hadid finally made her official Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show debut! We’ve been following the model’s journey closely, from her first fitting to her struggles with mastering the perfect smile. And all her training finally paid off. Bella glided down the catwalk like a seasoned vet and gave her best smirk to her ex boyfriend, The Weeknd (né Abel Tesfaye).  

In a first glimpse of her runway walk (you can see the full show when it airs December 5 on CBS) Bella struts past her ex in a metallic gray corset with matching half-sleeve cape during his performance of “Starboy.” The two lock eyes as she struts by him and even does a little shimmy. The Weeknd can’t take his eyes off her as she passes. (Can you blame him?)

While the duo look content together now, they split up in November after a year and half of dating. A rumor had it that the split was a result of their busy schedules being too hard to coordinate together, while reps for each star declined to comment.

The model was spotted looking at a picture of her and The Weeknd kissing during her flight to Paris with the entire Victoria’s Secret crew. Model Kelly Gale took a Snapchat video from the seat behind Hadid, and a very diligent superfan pointed out the photo on her phone right away.

Then, the duo met up at the famed Hôtel Costes in Paris on Tuesday. “Bella sat next to The Weeknd and spoke for a little while to him,” E! News reported. 



“They were really cool with each other. Bella was in a great mood, smiling and seemed really happy while being there.”

New Pathogenic Anthrax-Like Causing Disease Killing Wild and Domestic Animals Discovered In Africa

Caused by a bacteria, anthrax is a life-threatening deadly disease. While rare, people can contract the disease if they come into contact with infected animals, people or contaminated animal products. But anthrax is only one species in a group of bacteria, and now researchers have identified a brand new pathogen causing an anthrax-like disease in Central Africa that infects both domestic and wild animals, including our closest evolutionary relatives.  

The bacteria responsible for anthrax is known as Bacillus anthracis, and is closely related to another less threatening and more widespread species known as Bacillus cereus. Commonly found in the ground and soil around the world, most of the time B. cereus is harmless, but it now seems that one particular strain in Africa has developed a more sinister ability.

After sampling goats in a remote Congolese village, researchers from the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin isolated a bacteria found in an animal that was dying. Not long after, they also sampled the remains of a chimpanzee, gorilla, and forest elephant found dead in the forests of Cameroon, Central African Republic, and Côte d’Ivoire.

From these, they identified a novel strain of the B. cereus bacteria, but one that has seemingly evolved a similar lifestyle to B. anthracisindependently. The researchers have called the new strain “B. cereus biovar anthracis”, as it seemingly displays a mixture of features from both bacteria. They reported the findings in the journal PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases.

The main factor that makes B. anthracis so virulent and deadly when contracted is the genes encoded on two small plasmids within the bacteria, known as pXO1 and pXO2. The researchers found that the new B. cereus biovar anthracis strain also has these two plasmids, presumably also conferring the virulence displayed, but that it has seemingly acquired them on its own. Yet while there are many subgroups within B. anthracis indicating multiple ancestors, there is only one within B. cereus biovar anthracis, suggesting a singular ancestry.  

The researchers suspect that the newly identified pathogen may be more widespread, potentially throughout the African continent, though it is potentially restricted to the more humid and warm regions of the tropics. This, postulate the authors, could be down to the strain's ability to produce spores under very specific climatic conditions, although obviously at the time of writing this is mainly speculation as more research needs to be undertaken as to the exact biology of the pathogen.

They warn, however, that due to the presence of the disease in both chimpanzees and gorillas, as well as in livestock, coupled with its apparent deadly nature, that more surveillance should be carried out in the region in order to assess its impact not only on threatened wildlife species, but also the local people living in the region.

Although Cookie and Lucious Lyon show their love by scheming and screaming, Taraji wants something a little different.

“That old couple crooked and bent over but still holding hands,” she adds of her dream relationship. “I know that kind of love exists and I'm not going to stop until I have that."

Although the FOX actress is proud she won’t give up until she meets her soulmate, she does admit raising her son Marcell, now 22, solo was difficult.

“We can do it all, but I wouldn't wish being a single parent on my worst enemy,” she admits. “It is not easy."

The Lyon matriarch dropped some more knowledge on parenting, saying, “Sometimes we try to protect our children so much that when something doesn't go right in their lives, they're unprepared to deal with adversity.

“I don't think that does our kids any favors."

Let’s see if Cookie can try the step-back method this season on Empire. (We doubt it.)
