JAY-Z EXPLAINS WHY HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH KANYE WEST IS 'COMPLICATED'

There's a status on Facebook that perfectly sums up the relationship between Jay-Z and Kanye West: it's complicated.

The two rappers have been the best of friends and fierce enemies over the past several years, and their friendship nearly mirrors that of an off-and-on relationships, something all too familiar in the entertainment world.

Last year, things went south between the two after Kanye went on a rant during a concert in which he lashed out at Jay's wife, Beyonce. Kanye eventually checked into the hospital for exhaustion.

How are things now between Jay-Ye?

Jay-Z told The New York Times Style Magazine "T" that he spoke to Kanye "the other day, just to tell him, like, he's my brother." He added, "I love Kanye. I do. It's a complicated relationship with us."

Why are things complicated?

"'Cause, you know—Kanye came into this business on my label. So, I've always been like his big brother. And we're both entertainers," Jay-Z said. "It's always been like a little underlying competition with your big brother. And we both love and respect each other's art, too. So, it's like, we both—everyone wants to be the greatest in the world. You know what I'm saying? And then there's like a lot of other factors that play in it. But it's gonna—we gonna always be good."
Still, it will take time for the two to be on the same page again, the "4:44" rapper says.
"But that happens. In the long relationship, you know, hopefully when we're 89 we look at this six months or whatever time and we laugh at that. You know what I'm saying?," Jay-Z said. "There's gonna be complications in the relationship that we have to get through. And the only way to get through that is we sit down and have a dialogue and say, 'These are the things that I'm uncomfortable with. These are the things that are unacceptable to me. This is what I feel.' I'm sure he feels that I've done things to him as well. You know what I'm saying?"

Kanye, Jay continued, "is a very compassionate person. And a lot of times he gets in trouble trying to help others. So, I can identify with it. It's just that there's certain things that happened that's not really acceptable to me. And we just need to speak about it. But there's genuine love there."

Gloria Carter (Jay-Z's Mom ) Reveals Jay-z's Reaction When She Came Out as a Lesbian

Nearly every song on Jay-Z's latest album, 4:44, generated buzz when the project dropped in June, but one track in particular stood out to many listeners: "Smile," on which the rapper revealed that his mother, Gloria Carter, is a lesbian.

"Mama had four kids, but she's a lesbian / Had to pretend so long that she's a thespian," Jay-Z, 47, raps. "Had to hide in the closet, so she medicate / Society shame and the pain was too much to take / Cried tears of joy when you fell in love / Don't matter to me if it's a him or her."

The end of the song features a spoken word poem recited and written by Gloria herself: "Living in the shadow feels like the safe place to be / No harm for them, no harm for me / But life is short, and it's time to be free / Love who you love, because life isn't guaranteed."

Gloria publicly addressed the song for the first time on Tuesday, September 5, and revealed how she came out to her son. "Me and my son, we share a lot of information. I was sitting there and I was telling him one day, I just finally started telling him who I was," she explained on the D'USSE Friday podcast on Tuesday, September 5. "Besides your mother, this is the person that I am. This is the life that I live. My son started actually tearing 'cause he's like, 'That had to be a horrible life, Ma.' I was like, 'My life was never horrible. It was just different.' So that made him want to do a song about it."

The track almost didn't see the light of day, though. "The first time I heard the song, I was like, 'Eh, I don't know, dude. I ain't feeling that,'" Gloria recalled. "When it first happened, I was sharing myself [with Jay], not to share myself with the world."

After several discussions with her son, Gloria's apprehension faded away and she agreed to appear on the song. "I was never ashamed of me. But in my family, it was something that was never discussed," she said. "I'm tired of all the mystery. I'm gonna give it to 'em. ... Now it's time for me to live my life and be happy, be free."

Watch Jay Z Made An Entire Music Festival Crowd Sing "Happy Birthday" To Beyoncé

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles Carter turns 36 today, which means the Beyhive is buzzing. There's no word yet on how Bey, hubby Jay Z, or their three kids—Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir—are officially celebrating her big day; however, we do know that last night, the family was in Philly. The occasion? Budweiser's Made In America Festival, where Jay Z headlined a set.

Not missing an opportunity to celebrate, Jay Z told the crowd, "Shout out to Beyoncé. Beautiful Bey is in the house tonight. Happy birthday, my love!" before leading everyone in singing the chorus from Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday."

In video captured at the event, we can see Beyoncé smiling as the crowd properly celebrates the queen she is, with fellow former Destiny's Child member Michelle Williams standing beside her. Earlier, Bey and Blue Ivy got their grooves on while Jay performed.
Beyoncé's sister Solange was also a performer at the festival, which meant that basically the whole crew was together for what must be a very special birthday weekend.
Check it out:

Perhaps the person who most enjoyed the weekend, though, was Cardi B. The "Bodak Yellow" rapper got this picture out of the festival. In other words, she hath been anointed:

Beyoncé, a Houston native, made headlines earlier this week for her response to the destruction wrought by Hurricane Harvey. After initially posting her prayers for Texas on Instagram, the singer made a statement to the Houston Chronicle about her plans to help affected Houstonians through her BeyGOOD initiative.
Less importantly, she was also dragged into the sturm and drang over Taylor Swift's new video.
Here's hoping Beyoncé and her family have a wonderful weekend celebrating. Maybe we'll get a party pic with Rumi and Sir's inevitable new playmate, Serena Williams' daughter? After all, if anyone's going to have a power-clique birthday, it's Queen B.

Beyoncé Watch Jay Z and Solange Perform Wearing A Head to Toe Gucci To Match

Beyoncé has looked amazing in every appearance she's made since the twins were born, and this weekend was no exception. Turning up at the Made in America Festival to watch husband Jay Z, and sister Solange perform, Beyoncé donned a head to toe Gucci look.

Photos of the "Lemonade" singer quickly made it on to social media, highlighting Beyoncé's incredible outfit choice.

Beyoncé's look is actually from the Gucci Cruise 2018, "New Renaissance" line:

And not just that: this particular Gucci jacket is inspired by Dapper Dan, who The New York Times report, "magnified luxury brands' logomania to larger-than-life proportions, essentially elevated the knockoff to an art unto itself: fashion as sampling."

The New York Times also reported, the "fur-lined piece with balloon sleeves created by Mr. Day in the 1980s made use of the Louis Vuitton logo without the brand's permission." Day was sued at the time for using labels' designs without their permission, but now Gucci has turned to his boutique for inspiration, replicating the balloon sleeves almost identically.

To complete the outfit, Beyoncé is wearing Gucci's Metallic Leather Kingsnake pumps. Sheer Perfection.

Jay Z Marks 47th Birthday With Beyonce, Tina Knowles and Kelly Rowland at Secret Dinner Party

Happy b-day, Hov! Jay Z celebrated his 47th birthday a day early with close friends and family members at a private dinner party in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 3.

The 21-time Grammy winner (whose actual birthday is on December 4) arrived at the French restaurant République with his wife, Beyoncé. The happy couple, who married in April 2008, kept their arrival under wraps and had the hotspot's entrance covered with dark green tarps.

Beyoncé's former Destiny's Child bandmate and close friend Kelly Rowland attended the intimate celebration with her husband, Tim Witherspoon. Rowland, 35, looked stunning in all black, but covered up her ensemble in a long silver coat and matching fedora.

Jay Z's mother-in-law, Tina Knowles, arrived with her husband, Richard Larson. Knowles, 62, rocked a black and army green jacket, skintight leather pants and platform boots.

Earlier in the day, Beyoncé's mom headed to a local Buffalo Wild Wings with her hubby for a pre-dinner snack. "When your walk on the wild side is having some hot wings on a Saturday afternoon at a place called 'Wild Wings,'" Knowles captioned an Instagram video of herself.

Knowles later shared a video of her hubby sipping on a glass of strawberry lemonade. "We have a 'Seat at the Table' (at Wild Wings) and he is drinking 'lemonade,'" she wrote on Instagram, referencing the titles of daughters Solange Knowles and Beyoncé's latest acclaimed albums.

Jay Z's birthday dinner appeared to be much more low-key than his wife's Soul Train-themed birthday bash in September. Queen Bey celebrated the big 3-5 with countless A-listers including Usher, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz and Chance The Rapper.
