Queen Elizabeth Invites Donald Trump And Melania Trump To The Royal Palace

On Friday, Theresa May, the prime minister of Great Britain, became the first world leader to visit President Donald Trump since he's taken office, and one question (of the many) looming over the meeting was whether the Royal Family would extend an invitation to the Trumps for a formal state visit.

During a joint press conference on Friday, May confirmed that an invitation was extended to Donald and Melania Trump—and they accepted.

"I have today been able to convey her majesty the Queen's hope President Trump and the first lady would pay a state visit to the United Kingdom later this year, and I'm delighted the president accepted that invitation," she said.

It's not immediately clear when the state visit will take place and which members of the royal family will be in attendance.

The U.S. and Great Britain have what is considered a "special relationship," an informal term that refers to the nations' close political, diplomatic, economic and military ties. Trump, who said during prepared remarks that the countries' relationship has "never been stronger," also elicited laughter after a BBC reporter—whom May called on—posed a particularly tough question:
"Mr. President, you've said before that torture works. You've praised Russia, you've said you want to ban some Muslims from coming to America. You suggested there should be punishment for abortion. For many people in Britain, those sound like alarming beliefs. What do you say to our viewers at home who are worried about some of your views and worried about you becoming the leader of the free world?"
Trump's response:
"This was your choice of a question? There goes that relationship.
The president later said he supports torture but would defer to his defense secretary, General James Mattis, on the topic. Mattis opposes torture. Trump said it was too early to tell how his relationship with Russia would be and didn't respond to the comment about abortion.

Queen Elizabeth II Fully Backed Prince Harry’s Relationship With Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle has already charmed Prince William — and now a source reveals she’s got the approval of Queen Elizabeth II as well. A Buckingham Palace insider says Her Majesty is “fully supportive” of grandson Prince Harry’s relationship with the Suits actress, 35.

While she has yet to meet Markle (it took Duchess Kate five years to score an introduction!), “She’s delighted to see Harry in a loving relationship,” continues the source.
The Toronto-based actress actually has a team of cheerleaders inside Kensington Palace, too. Six months into their romance, Harry, 32, has asked senior aides to help her navigate some of the challenges of being in such a public relationship. A Harry pal says Markle was “overwhelmed” by the attention that came with romancing Britain’s most eligible heir, and turned to Harry’s communications secretary Jason Knauf and private secretary Ed Lane Fox for advice.
“There have been times where Meghan’s been unsure [of protocol],” says the Harry pal, “and having a direct line to Harry’s most trusted aides has been a godsend.”
They have even provided some helpful guidance when it comes to sharing information with her 1.4 million Instagram followers. Says the friend, “Being careful not to reveal locations or send the wrong message is something she’s slowly gotten used to.”
The Northwestern University grad has another VIP on her advising team. After Markle’s romance with Harry went public in late October, IPRESSTV has learned, a friend connected her with Sophie Trudeau — the wife of Canadian prime minister Justin, elected in 2015.
“Sophie went through a similar situation,” explains a source. “She was a television host and focused a lot on pop culture — then she became the story herself!” The former correspondent for Canada’s eTalk news show has spoken with Markle about how she learned to deal with critics and intrusion, says the source: “Mentor might be too big of a word, but Sophie’s unique insight has been so helpful.”
Markle could be hitting her up for more tips soon. A source says they wouldn't be surprised if Harry proposes in the new year. “I can see them engaged by the spring,” says a close Harry insider, who is one of many friends seeing a bright future for the couple. “He’s head over heels.”

Why Queen Elizabeth Was Warned 69 Years Ago Not To Marry Prince Philip Revealed.

The Queen and Prince Philip will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary next year, but if warnings from royal courtiers had been taken seriously by the monarch, their marriage may have never happened.

Speaking at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, the Queen’s biographer, A.N. Wilson, revealed why Princess Elizabeth was advised not to marry the Greece-born prince in 1947.

According to Wilson, Philip, who is known for making the odd blunder in public, was too "funny" for the young princess.

"They said it for lots of reasons, but the fact is he was wrong," Wilson explained when asked about the advisers’ views on Philip, reports the Telegraph.

"The Queen is very reserved, diligent person. He isn’t. He was a naval officer and he was also quite funny."

Wilson continued, "The fact that he makes all these so-called gaffes, well I don’t think they are gaffes.

"They are the kind of jokes a naval officer of a certain age might make. I think [they are] made rather wonderfully."

13-year-old Princess Elizabeth first met Philip, who was 18 at the time, on a visit to Dartmouth Naval College with her father, George VI. They were married at Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947, six years before the Queen’s coronation.

After 69 years together, it’s safe to say the Queen’s advisers were wrong about the couple’s supposed mis-match.

Queen Elizabeth Spotted Driving A Range Rover With the Middletons as Her Passengers

When you normally see photos of Queen Elizabeth II, she's usually waving to a crowd from some sort of balcony, or seated comfortably during a parade. But it turns out the British monarch loves nothing more than the open road.

Hello! magazine reports that Queen Elizabeth II played host to the Duchess of Cambridge, her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and of course, Prince William, at her summer residence in Balmoral, Scotland. The Queen played chauffeur to Carole as they returned from a grouse shoot, and earlier in the day she was spotted taking Kate to a picnic with William, according toPeople.

Here's the Queen with Kate by her side.

Here's the Queen with Carole:

This is hardly the first time the Queen has been seen behind the wheel. Just two years ago, she was spotted driving the Range Rover to a horse show in Windsor:

Here's the royal driving her Jaguar after watching a polo match in 2010:

Would you mess with her behind the wheel of a four-wheel-drive Land Rover? Here she is looking intimidating in 1992:

In the 1970s, she was the picture of chic driving a Vauxhall Estate Car in Windsor Great Park:

And way back in 1957, she drove her kids, Prince Charles and Princess Anne, around at Windsor:

Fun fact: The Queen is the only person in the United Kingdom who can drive without a license. That's because all licenses are issued in the Queen's name, so she doesn't need to give one to herself; the same goes for registration plates on her cars and even passports.

But she knows her stuff, having driven a military truck during World War II. And she once took Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah on a drive in Balmoral, despite the fact that women aren't allowed to drive in his home country. Now that's behavior fit for a queen.

Queen Elizabeth is Hiring. Would You Like to Work For the English Queen?

Looking for a new job? We hear the queen of England is hiring—but you might be less than impressed with what she’s willing to pay.

According to a new listing posted on the royal household’s website, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom is looking for a housekeeper to live and work at Buckingham Palace. But the annual salary is just £16,755—or about $22,283.

Of course, that seems shockingly low. But the small salary comes with a big bonus: The right to live in the palace, with meals provided by the queen’s cooks, and access to all the palace’s recreational facilities. (One can only hope the newest housekeeper could catch a glimpse of Prince Harry at the indoor pool—before being promptly asked to vacate the premises.)
The new housekeeper will also earn a whopping 33 days of vacation and a 15 percent employer-match to her pension. (Many companies no longer offer an employer-match to retirement funds, and those that do rarely come close to 15 percent.)
“This is no standard housekeeping role,” the listing says. “You’ll work, and live, in stunning historic settings, ensuring that they’re presented to their best for colleagues, guests and, of course, the royal family. Aiming for the highest standards, you’ll clean and care for interiors and items from carpets and furniture to historic vases and irreplaceable paintings.”
According to the listing, prior housekeeping experience isn’t a must, though it’s obviously a plus. If you’re interested, you can apply online. And if you get the job, we expect an invitation to come crash at your new pad.
