All roads lead back to Rosewood High in this Pretty Little Liars recap of Season 7, Episode 8. Alison is back teaching, Emily is applying for a job there, and so many old-school relationships are back in the air.
Paige is back! She’s Emily’s competition for that swim coach job. And Haleb feels are swarming.
But most importantly: Psych! Caleb wasn’t hit by Noel Kahn’s car. It was all Hanna’s dream.
Pretty Little Liars opens as the Liars and Caleb are walking the streets of Rosewood at night, chatting about how Alison once blackmailed Noel because she knew he pushed a girl named Rory down the stairs at that infamous frat party.
Hanna is convinced Noel is “A.D.,” and she storms off only to watch Caleb get hit by the car.
No worries, though — she wakes up and heads out to check on her ex-beau to see he’s fine.
Meanwhile, Aria is panicking to Emily about deleting Nicole’s call, and Ezra interrupts, so she has to spill the beans. He doesn’t take the news well, and clearly the Ezria engagement is off to a rough start, even though a guilty Emily tries to smooth it over by saying it was her idea to delete the call.
Aria’s too busy sleuthing, though, to be wrapped up in her relationship. Spencer has found Dr. Cochrane, a young female doctor whose father by the same name lost his medical license but used to work in Radley and delivered Mary Drake’s babies.
He was the man on call whenever women got pregnant and needed to make the child disappear. Charlotte was taken by Jessica, but Mary’s other child went into state custody, likely into foster care.
Thinking Spencer and Aria ransacked her office — though they believe it was A.D. or Noel Kahn — she gives them her father's address and they visit, taking her advice to bring a bottle of whiskey. Ahem, whiskey. The same drink “A.D.” was drinking in last week’s “A”-tag
At the elder Dr. Cochrane’s dingy apartment, Aria and Spencer learn Mary did have two babies at Radley, one several years after Charles, aka Charlotte, but he doesn’t remember if it was a boy or a girl.
“You always return to family in the end,” the doctor says, clearly echoing a major theme in Season 7.
Noel is also heavily on Hanna’s mind, in addition to Aria and Spencer’s. She believes 100% he is “A.D.,” and her beliefs are only confirmed by a visit from eerie Mrs. Grunwald, who warns her both she and Caleb are in danger.
Moreover, she says whomever is harming Hanna has a connection to Radley. We mean, duh.
“The source of the threat is close to you, very close,” Grunwald says as Noel Kahn pops over. That’s when Grunwald’s nose starts to bleed, hanging onto Hanna’s hand.
Alison, meanwhile, is all about moving forward, returning to her job at Rosewood High. But her students have pranks on the brain, and they all join her class wearing black “A” hoodies. Not cool, guys.
Principal Hackett worries Ali might have returned to work too early, and calls her into his office to say so, but Alison is more concerned with spotting his student files. More on that later.
We learn Paily broke up because Emily was distraught over the death of her father. Paige, though, had plans to swim at the Olympics until they were dashed by an injury.
Be careful, Emison fans — and Sabrina lovers, too — because Paige seemed upset watching Emily and Sabrina share a kind moment in The Brew.
Speaking of exes, Aria takes the high road and trades in her Italy elopement tickets to buy one ticket for Ezra to go to Colombia and see if Nicole is still alive. Sad news for all Ezria OTP-ers, as Aria re-packs up her wedding dress and puts it away.
Back at Rosewood High, Alison goes old-school and sneaks into the principal’s office to sneak a peek at Noel’s file. Inside? There’s just a note that says “I warned you bitches, do you really want to end up dead?”
That’s not even the craziest part. Hanna, what are you up to? She disappears from the loft to make a secret phone call.
“The deal is on. I get you the money, you give me the keys,” she says, going on to say that then, the person on the other line needs to forget all this.
She lies to Caleb, telling him she’s going to New York to work with Lucas, but instead, she dresses in all black and is last seen taping up the windows of a dark room in newspaper.
Oh, and before she left she was totally about to kiss Caleb. Haleb is totally back on.
Finally, Spencer is clearly trolling us. We watch her flip through a family photo album, lingering on a picture of Peter Hastings and settling on baby photos. Are they of her? Is this a way of the crew to tell us Spencer is or is not Mary Drake’s child?
We need to know more!
