SLUT SHAMING: Renée Zellweger Defends ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’

Wait, is Bridget Jones a slut?
Renée Zellweger is defending her infamous character despite allegations of “slut shaming” in the new movie Bridget Jones's Baby.
The third installment of the movie series follows Bridget through pregnancy with some added baby daddy drama — she doesn’t actually know who the baby daddy is.
Though it may seem like a normal tale to some, Sydney Morning Herald sat down with the actress and her co-star Patrick Dempsey to discuss the gender accusations.
"Gosh, that's interesting. I didn't think about it in terms of its morality, I hadn't thought about it that way,” the actress said surprised by the question.
“I was looking at the quality of the writing and how it made me laugh. I guess I was a little caught up in the other things."
McDreamy of course came to save the day with his own views on the topic.
"Today I think it works because there's been a break now, that you can get away with that discussion,” he replied.
“And I think it makes it very contemporary and progressive in a lot of ways.
“Something came out of one our interviews this morning about how the women are a little bit more aggressive and the men are retreating. And I think that's where we're at right now."
And Renée backed up her hunky co-star, saying that Bridget Jones is as relatable as she was 15 years ago.
"She's imperfect, and she makes it OK for the rest of us to be imperfect. And we love being privy to her inner dialogue, you know?
“Her anxieties and her self-deprecating humour. Because we relate to that.
“We all know what it's like to find yourself in the middle of an escalating disaster, realizing that you can't get out of it but doing your best to proceed anyway."
And Bridget has definitely had her fair share of disasters. Like when she went to Tarts and Vicars party in full costume and no one else was dressed up.
Classic.
And though critics think the movie role may be endorsing gender stereotypes — the actress is still owning it.
