Update, 10/17: MediaTakeOut has responded to Kim Kardashian West, who filed a lawsuit against the site because it reportedly claimed she "staged" her robbery. Founder Fred Mwangaguhunga acknowledged that the reporting "went too far," in a recent interview with CNN.
"Our number one goal is to produce the most accurate information as quickly as possible and we did that. But now, looking back at it, you have a chance often times to look back and reflect on what it is that happened. It's now clear that she was robbed. It's clear that the reporting that we did hurt her, and we certainly don't want that to be what we do."
The three stories on the site that suggested Kim fabricated her robbery have since been taken down, but Mwangaguhunga said the issue transcends simply removing the posts. He added:
"It's a bigger issue than just someone telling you to take it down. Sometimes you take it down because there's something on there that's not right and your readers are being misled by the information on it."
Update, 10/13: New reportssay Kim Kardashian West is also taking legal action against the gossip site Radar Online, which published a video from inside her apartment in Paris right after she was robbed.
The visuals show her seated in the hotel room FaceTiming while police investigate the premises. Radar Online said she was "sitting cozily on a couch, bundled up in a blanket, calmly video-chatting on a cell phone — and far from hysterical as she's been publicly painted."
The site expressed suspicions over Kardashian West's robbery after watching the tape, since her phone was reportedly stolen during the attack, she showed no sign of bruising from being tied up, and there was no evidence of break-in. However, it is possible that she borrowed a phone and the bruises were not visible with her distance from the camera. The hotel concierge also apparently let the robbers into the apartment, which could be why damage from a break-in is missing.
Though the video itself was taken down, Radar Online revised the accompanying article with the following statement:
"The video accompanying this article has been removed because of a legal threat from Kim Kardashian, and the article revised accordingly. We do not believe, however, that either the video or the article accuse Ms. Kardashian of "faking" the Paris robbery, as her attorneys have claimed, and which we did not intend. Rather, they raise legitimate questions about the events at issue, questions which many media outlets and many other people have also raised. We apologize to Ms. Kardashian for any implication otherwise."
Two days ago, news broke that the reality star is suing MediaTakeOut for reporting that her robbery was fabricated. (Read more in the original story below.) It is unclear whether Kardashian West is taking legal action against any other news sources.
Original post, 10/11: Kim Kardashian West has reportedly filed a federal lawsuit against MediaTakeOut.com for claiming that she fabricated her robbery in Paris, according to TMZ. The lawsuit, which was obtained by TMZ, states that MediaTakeOut posted three inaccurate stories on the reality star's ordeal and used "random people off social media" as sources.
One of the posts "suggested" she and her mom Kris Jenner "staged" the attack, another claimed she "let the robbers in" her apartment, and third revolved around her insurance claim. The stories have since been removed from the website. MediaTakeOut has yet to comment.
Kim "is not doing that well" in the wake of her traumatizing robbery, her sister Khloe Kardashian revealed on Ellen for the first time today. The celeb has stayed silent on social media, held back on public appearances and increased security since returning home. Khloe added, "I think it's important to make those adjustments and to pull back a little bit."
