Police Suspects Foul Play In The Death of billionaire drug company owner and his wife

Barry Sherman, 75, and Honey were found dead inside their mansion in northeast Toronto yesterday.

Police arrived at the property after responding to a medical call from a real estate agent, who was helping them sell the property, at around 12pm.

He found their bodies in the basement, according to the Toronto Globe and Mail.

They were pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies were later removed from the home.

‘The circumstances of their death appear suspicious and we are treating it that way,’ said Constable David Hopkinson.

Detectives added they had not figured out whether their deaths were the result of foul play but there were no signs of forced entry into their property.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau paid tribute to the couple on Twitter, writing: ‘Our condolences to their family and friends, and to everyone touched by their vision and spirit.’

Toronto Mayor John Tory added in a statement he was ‘shocked and heartbroken’.

Mr and Mrs Sherman, who had four children, had given tens of millions of dollars to hospitals, universities and Jewish organizations.

‘Toronto Police are investigating, and I hope that investigation will be able to provide answers for all of us who are mourning this tremendous loss,’ he said.

Mr Sherman founded drug company Apotex in 1974 and Forbes has estimated he’s worth $3.2 billion (£2.4bn).
