Trump once again backs protests in Iran, blast Obama over nuke deal

President Trump once again showed his support for the continuing demonstrations in Iran - saying they’re opposing a “brutal and corrupt” regime – and took another shot at his predecessor for “foolishly” giving the country money that ended up funding terrorism.
“The people of Iran are finally acting against the brutal and corrupt Iranian regime,” the president said on Twitter on Tuesday. “All of the money that President Obama so foolishly gave them went into terrorism and into their ‘pockets.’ The people have little food, big inflation and no human rights. The U.S. is watching!”
Trump has been tweeting about unrest since it began last Thursday, backing the Iranian people’s right to peacefully protest the government and reminding the country’s leaders that the world is monitoring any human rights violations.
Nine people were killed overnight in clashes between protesters and security forces, bringing the death toll to 20, the largest rallies since the disputed 2009 presidential election.
Hundreds have been arrested.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khameni on Tuesday blamed the violence on “enemies of Iran” interfering in the country’s affairs.
“In recent days, enemies of Iran used different tools including cash, weapons, politics and intelligence apparatus to create troubles for the Islamic Republic,” Khamenei said, according to state media.
Trump’s also been blasting former President Obama for the nuclear deal he brokered with Iran and other world leaders in 2015.
”Iran is failing at every level despite the terrible deal made with them by the Obama Administration,” Trump wrote on Twitter on Monday, while spending the holiday at his Florida resort Mar-a-Lago.
As part of the deal to reduce Iran’s nuclear stockpile, the Obama administration returned $1.7 billion owed to the country, which has been known to support terrorist groups, including Hezbollah, in the Middle East.
