Recently an iPhone 7 lived a full 48 hours underwater water thanks to what might be the best waterproof case ever. It was discovered when a diver noticed a glow coming from the ocean floor as the iPhone received a text message.

The iPhone was still more than 80% charged when it was discovered!

NYPD Start Giving iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Handsets to Manhattan Officers, doing away with Windows Phones

The New York Police Department is making good on a promise made last year to dole out iPhone handsets to its officers, replacing around 36,000 Windows Phones as part of a new hardware upgrade strategy, reports the New York Daily News. 

The NYPD has been rolling out hundreds of the phones since Christmas to Manhattan cops, who can choose between iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models. The platform switch comes at no cost to the police department because the handsets are filed as upgrades under the agency's contract with AT&T. 






"We've been giving out about 600 phones a day," said NYPD Deputy Commissioner for Information and Technology Jessica Tisch. "We're seeing a lot of excitement." 

Police in the Bronx and Staten Island have already received their new phones, with officers in the Queens and Brooklyn boroughs next in line to make the switch to iOS. 

Armed with Apple's smartphones, the NYPD has seen its response times to critical crimes in progress drop by 14 percent, according to Tisch. The iPhones also allow cops to get videos and surveillance pictures of wanted suspects within minutes of a crime. 

"I truly feel like it's the ultimate tool to have as a patrol cop," said Police Officer Christopher Clampitt. "We get to the location a lot quicker," he said. "By the time the dispatcher puts out the job (on the radio) we're already there."

Before the rollout, NYPD's smartphones of choice were Nokia's Lumia 830 and Lumia 640 XL, released in October 2014 and March 2015 respectively. The discontinued devices run Windows Phone 8.1, which Microsoft ended support for in July 2017 to focus on its newer Windows 10 Mobile platform and cloud-based services. 

In October 2014, New York City officials announced plans to roll out handheld devices to every NYPD officer for the first time ever, along with tablets for every patrol car. The $160 million initiative was part of a plan to bring the department into the 21st century. 

Technology Kills Man as He Uses His iPhone in His Bath

A man has died after dropping his iPhone in the bath while it was charging.

Richard Bull, 32, was in the bath, resting his phone, which was charging via an extension cord in the hallway, on his chest in December last year.





When the water touched his phone, he was electrocuted to death. He suffered acute burns on his chest, arm and hand. His wife Tanya found him in the bath, and thought he had been attacked he was so badly injured. She phoned for an ambulance, but unfortunately he was already dead by the time the paramedics arrived.

Richard was getting ready to meet his family and exchange Christmas gifts when he was electrocuted. Such a horrific tragedy.


While people know to keep hairdryers away from the bath, people might not think that something as small as a mobile phone could potentially electrocute you if it comes in contact with water.

His brother Andrews said: "We can all be careless at times. You don't think there is enough electricity to do this, but there is."


"It was such a needless and tragic accident."

His mum Carole commented: " I worry so many people, and especially teenagers who can't be separated from their phones, don't know how dangerous it is."

Assistant coroner Dr Sean Cummings is writing a report to send to Apple about how dangerous iPhones can be if they come into contact with water - if they're connected to a charger.


It's pretty unlikely that you would get electrocuted from a laptop or mobile phone if it was not being charged because the voltage is low - but you should still not take it into the bath with you.

But if the phone, laptop or tablet is connected to a charger plugged into the mains electricity supply, there is a huge increase in the risk of being electrocuted.

Sales of iPhones in China could be impacted if President-elect Donald Trump initiates a trade war with China, a Chinese state-run publication is warning.

The publication, the Global Times, also warned that the country could start buying Airbus aircraft instead of Boeing, and that in addition to iPhone sales, American car sales in China will “suffer a setback.” It added that “U.S. soybean and maize imports will be halted.”







Donald Trump has said that he will declare China a “currency manipulator,” and Judy Shelton, an economic advisor to Trump, said on Friday to Bloomberg that she thought he’d follow through on the issue. “I think that he’s someone who is going to carry through on what he has said— he’s always very straightforward and honest, and I expect him to be consistent,” she said.

The Global Times also cautioned: “If he does list China as a currency manipulator and slap steep tariffs on Chinese imports, China will take countermeasures.”

It added that such a move would make the US-Sino trade relationship “more tense” and that in response to a trade tariff of 45 percent on Chinese imports in the U.S., China would take a “tit-for-tat approach” that could affect iPhone sales in that country.

According to Apple’s latest financial results, Greater China is the company’s third-largest market, measured by revenue, although sales there have fallen around 30 percent year-over-year in the past two quarters.
