Rihanna Blushes All Over Drake and His VMAs Address: ‘I Love You for That’

Rihanna gave a very big thank you to Drake in a heartfelt post following the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

The singer took to Instagram on Friday (Sept. 2, 2016) to thank everyone for the honor — especially all the love from her new boyfriend. After the Toronto rapper declared his love for RiRi during his VMAs speech while presenting her with the Vanguard award, it seems like Rihanna is doing the same.

“#VMA2016 night was one that I would never forget!! I have the most incredible people in my life! My family, friends, loved ones, my fans, my team!!! All gifted beautiful spirits!” she began the heartfelt caption alongside a video clip of her acceptance speech.

“[Drake] your speech was so touching and I love you for that! All in all….Best night ever!!! I’m a lucky girl!!! To God be the Glory! #RiRiVanguard,” she continued.

The Instagram post comes one day after the couple kissed on stage in Miami, Fla. — and basically making their relationship official. That same day, she debuted a shark tattoo on her left ankle, the same shark stuffed toy Drake had got her during their romantic date.

If you polled viewers of the 2016 MTV VMAs, 99 percent of fans loved Beyoncé’s awe-inspiring, lengthy Lemonadeperformance.

Former mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani falls in the other 1 percent.

The politician — who was mayor during the 9/11 tragedy — appeared on Fox & Friends today, August 29, just to bash Bey’s artistic excellence.

"Her dancers were circling around her and one by one, they fell to the ground, and there were red lights underneath them," co-host Ainsley Earhardt explained.

“And that was supposed to symbolize cops killing black individuals.”

Rudy, 72, wasn’t having it.

"You're asking the wrong person," the failed presidential candidate said. "I saved more black lives than any of those people you saw on stage.”

The politician, who hasn’t been in office for 15 years, then detailed his accomplishments, like reportedly reducing homicide by 75 percent.

“Maybe four or five thousand African-American young people... are alive today because of the policies I put in effect,” he bragged.

It’s unclear how Beyoncé’s performance called into question the ex-mayor’s decades-old success stories. But that didn’t stop Rudy from calling Bey’s cultural relevance a “shame.”

Yes, the Beyhive has already started dragging Rudy up and down Twitter in response.

Why 2016 MTV VMAs Turn Out Was Very Poor?

Though the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards featured aBritney Spears comeback,Drake’s public declaration of love for Rihanna, and a killer 16-minute performance from Beyoncé, the televised ceremony saw terrible ratings regarding viewership.

Once again, the VMAs suffered yet another drop in audience numbers, bringing in only 6.5 million viewers on Sunday night (Aug. 28, 2016). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the VMAs went down by more than 4 million viewers — a 34 percent drop — since 2015’s numbers. (To put things into perspective: More people watched last week’s Season 7 premiere of The Great British Bake Off, which saw 10.4 million viewers, than this year’s VMAs.)

The dip in ratings continues the VMAs’ trend of decline in viewership. In 2015, the show only snagged 10.3 million viewers, while 2014 had roughly a crowd of 13.7 million.

The Parents Television Council, an organization that previously complained about Miley Cyrus’raunchy VMAs performance in 2013, even remarked that MTV “definitely seemed to have toned it down” and that “it did seem to be a tamer VMAs” this year.

Though Beyoncé arguably stole the show with a medley of songs from Lemonade, some viewers even found ways to critique the performance. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giulianiblasted Beyoncé, saying:

I have five uncles who were police officers, two cousins who were, one who died in the line of duty. I ran the largest and best police department in the world, the New York City Police Department, and I saved more black lives than any of those people you saw on stage by reducing crime and particularly homicide by 75 percent…of which, maybe for or five thousand were African-American young people who are alive today because of the policies I put in effect that weren’t in effect for 35 years.

“When when she does stuff like that [her VMAs performance], that message to the next generation is pretty indelible,” he said on Fox & Friends. “It’s a shame.”

Sure, she was attentitive when her husband Kanye West got four minutes of speech time onstage (and when he debuted his Teyana Taylor-starring "Fade" video), but when she had the chance, she bopped around to get pictures with all the A-listers in attendance.

MTV VMA 2016: Watch Video Of Drake Presenting Award To Rihanna and He Talks about Love too

Rihanna was the winner of this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2016 MTV VMAs. After performing four times—medleys encompassing her entire discography—Drake presented the award with a loving tribute. “She’s someone I've been in love with since I was 22 years old,” he said. “She’s one of my best friends in the world.” During Rihanna’s speech, she thanked her fans, country, her team, friends, Drake, and of course, MTV. “My success, it started as my dream, but now my success is not my own—it’s my family’s, it’s my fans’, it’s the Caribbean as a whole, it’s women, it’s black women.” Watch Drake’s introduction and her speech. Previous Video Vanguard Award recipients include Kanye West, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Beastie Boys, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, and Madonna. Kanye West’s acceptance speech last year included his famous 2020 presidential run declaration.

Everyone watching the 2016 VMAs on Sunday night was on the edge of their seats after Drake confessed his love for Rihanna while presenting her with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. With nothing to lose, Drake went in for the kiss, and Rihanna seemingly swerved to avoid — although, from different angles, it actually appears the pair shared a quick peck before they ended up in their awkward embrace.

Of course, the internet has already begun overanalyzing the whole thing to try and figure out what happened, particularly Rihanna's response to Drake's very direct declaration of love.
