2018 Academy of Country Music Awards Winners: The whole List

Tonight is your night country music fans!

In case you didn't already guess, the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards are hours away and your favorite artists are heading to Las Vegas to celebrate the biggest hits of the past 12 months.

Held inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the live telecast will honor and showcase the biggest names and emerging talent in country music.

And with Reba McEntire serving as the evening's host, something tells us viewers are going to be in for one fun ride.

The bizarre moment a stage mum upstaged her own daughter in The Voice’s blind auditions.

Ashley McTackett is a 28-year-old from the Hunter Valley. Music, she says, is her big shot. She’s good at it, too.

It’s just that Ashley McTackett’s brilliant singing on The Voice was overshadowed by her brilliantly stage mum-like mother.

It went a little bit like this:

Ashley enters the stage. Sings for a little while. Judges don’t turn around for her.

When the judges are being nice and friendly and polite in their comments, commending Ashley for her lovely voice and dazzling smile, the audience quietens. A voice booms from stage right.

“Change your mind and press the button!” Ashley’s mum Mel yells.

And then she didn’t… she didn’t stop.

“Let my daughter through!”

“Somebody press a button and let her through!”

“You won’t regret it! Please! Please!”

“Please let my daughter through!”

Ashley, knowing full well her mother is yelling at the judges from the side of the stage, giggles quietly and utters a few words known well to children of excitable parents: “Uh. That’s my mother.”

May there be more mothers like Mel. May they always surface on our television screens.

May we always feel this odd concoction of awkwardness and glee.

45 Music Festivals Pledge to achieve a Gender-Equal Lineups by 2022

Forty-five music festivals have signed a pledge to reach a 50/50 gender split for their lineups by 2022.

This initiative was created by the PRS Foundation’s new program, Keychange. Keychange is an international initiative created to address the gender gap in the music industry and as part of this goal, they are trying to encourage as many music festivals as possible to commit to gender-equal lineups.

Some festivals that have signed the pledge as of this writing include the Americas’ A2IM Indie Week and Winter Jazzfest, Canadian Music Week, the Netherlands’ Eurosonic Noorderslag, Iceland Airwaves, the U.K.’s BBC Proms and BBC Music Introducing Stages, and more.

High-profile ambassadors of Keychange include Garbage’s Shirley Manson, producer Tony Visconti and Spanish indie rockers Hinds.

Manson said of Keychange and music’s gender gap in a statement:

I remain utterly outraged by the depressing statistics surrounding female representation in every aspect of the global music business. I am exceedingly grateful to the PRS Foundation for their initiative in trying to put this to rights for we absolutely and urgently MUST put it to rights. We are doing a great disservice, not only to women of all races and socio-economic backgrounds but to all genders, culture and society in general by allowing the status quo to continue. I am proud to support Keychange and everything it is trying to do.

The gender gap in music, specifically in festival lineups, has been discussed in thinkpieces for years now, but it seems like little has been done. Although festivals could theoretically enact these changes immediately, rather than gradually leading up to 2022, at least things appear to be moving in the right direction.

Of course, how nonbinary artists factor into all this is another question entirely.

Kanye West and Solange Knowles sued for allegedly ripping off songs

Rapper, Kanye West, and singer Solange Knowles are both being sued for allegedly ripping off a 1970’s track called "If We Can't Be Lovers."

According to TMZ, the lawsuit was filed by singer Leroy Mitchell, also known as Prince Phillip Mitchell, who wrote "If We Can't Be Lovers" in 1970.

He claims Solange's song, "F*** the Industry" and Kanye's song, "Everything I Am" both extensively sample his work without his permission.

Solange’s song was used on a mixtape she released called “I Can’t Get Clearance,” while Kanye’s track was featured on his 2007 album “Graduation”.

Mitchell’s lawsuit asks for Kanye and Solange to stop performing the songs and to end all radio play as well.

It was also alleged in the lawsuit that Kanye and Solange willfully committed the infringement, and Mitchell is asking for punitive damages.

Madonna Now Living In Portugal and She Is Working on New Music and a Movie There

Madonna's getting into her groove — outside of the United States. The superstar revealed in two Instagram posts on Saturday, September 2, that has moved to Portugal and is working on two projects.

"The energy of Portugal is so inspiring!" she captioned the first post. "I feel very creative and alive here and I look forward to working on my film LOVED and making New Music!!! ... This will be the next Chapter in My Book! It's time to conquer the world from a different vantage point!"

In the second post, the seven-time Grammy winner showed off baskets hanging from the ceiling of a kitchen. "I used to be a basket case but now I live in Lisbon!" she captioned the snap.

Madonna, 59, fell in love with the country after her 2004 tour, the Re-Invention World Tour, ended in Lisbon, a spokesperson for the star explained to the Associated Press.

The songstress first opened up about her upcoming film, Loved, in a January Harper's Bazaar interview. "It touches on a lot of really important topics I've always invested in or championed — fighting for women's rights, gay rights, civil rights — always fighting for the underdog," Madonna said of the movie, which is an adaptation of Andrew Sean Greer's novel The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells. "Why does this book appeal to me? Why did I want to adapt it into a screenplay? Because it touches me on so many levels and it deals with so many important topics. Right now, more than ever, it's an extremely timely story to tell."

Loved will be Madonna's fourth directorial project, her first since the 2013 short film Secret Project Revolution. Her most recent studio album was 2015's Rebel Heart, her 13th record.

Twitter Users Think Taylor Swift's New Song Is About Harry Styles And Here's Why

Taylor Swift dropped her new song, "...Ready for It?" Sunday morning and the internet is already analyzing it for clues, naturally. While some people think the love-filled song is about Taylor's rumored current guy, Joe Alwyn, many on Twitter have another theory: Harry Styles.

The theory stems from the moment Taylor sings about a guy who is "younger than my exes but he act like such a man so." Why does that point to Harry? At 23, he's younger than Taylor's other exes, like Calvin Harris (33), Tom Hiddleston (36), Joe Jonas (28), John Mayer (39), and Jake Gyllenhaal (36). Of course Joe Alwyn is 26, making him younger as well, but not the youngest.

Also supporting it? That reference to ghosts and phantoms, which has fans remembering Harry's song, "Two Ghosts" and the "island breeze" line, which could call back to the vacation they took together.
