Jimmy Fallon, Reese Witherspoon And Others Share Awkward Pics to Raise Money for Hurricane Maria Relief


What started out as comedy ended up being something way more serious. During Nick Kroll’s appearance on The Late Show on Wednesday, September 27, to promote his new Netflix comedy Big Mouth, the actor shared a cringe-worthy photo of himself as a teenager. Not to be outdone, Stephen Colbert then shared a school picture of himself with braces and announced he would donate $1,000 to Puerto Rico relief efforts for each celebrity who posted a photo of themselves at a “very awkward, pubescent age” using the hashtag #PuberMe and #PuertoRicoRelief.

As widely reported, Puerto Rico has been devastated after hurricanes Irma and Maria ripped through the island. Maria was a Category 4 storm that crippled the island with severe flooding, damaged buildings and left the U.S. territory with no power. At least 10 people have been confirmed dead and at least three hospitals are without supplies and running water. The damage is estimated to be billions of dollars and it could take several months to reconnect power and essential services to the island.

Many celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, have pledged to donate their own money and time to help fund hurricane relief. Several businesses including JP Morgan Chase, Verizon, Starbucks and Google have also donated.



Stars taking on Colbert’s challenge include Sarah Silverman, Reese Witherspoon, Jimmy Fallon and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Scroll through to see the hilarious pictures!

Trump defends response to Puerto Rico As Pence visits FEMA headquarters


Vice President Mike Pence on Saturday visited FEMA headquarters in Washington for briefings on recovery efforts in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, as President Trump defends the administration’s response to the territories after Hurricane Maria.
".@POTUS sent me to @FEMA today for briefing on progress in Puerto Rico & VI,” Pence tweeted Saturday. “Proud of our team and all first responders across PR & VI.”
The vice president tweeted photos of him speaking with FEMA staff and meeting with the agency’s administrator, Brock Long.
The Trump administration has tried in recent days to combat the perception that he failed to quickly grasp the magnitude of Maria's destruction and has given the U.S. commonwealth less attention than he'd bestowed on states hit by Harvey and Irma.





“Despite the Fake News Media in conjunction with the Dems, an amazing job is being done in Puerto Rico,” the president tweeted Saturday. “Great people!”
Trump has pledged to spare no effort to help Puerto Rico recover from Maria's ruinous aftermath, and tweeted that military personnel and first responders have done "an amazing job," despite having "no electric, roads, phones etc."
On Saturday, the president lashed out at the mayor of San Juan and other officials in storm-ravaged Puerto Rico, contemptuous of their claims of a laggard U.S. response to the natural disaster that has imperiled the island's future.
"Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help," Trump said in a series of tweets a day after the capital city's mayor appealed for help "to save us from dying."
"They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort," Trump wrote from his New Jersey golf club.
The tweets amounted to a biting response to San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz, who had accused the Trump administration of "killing us with the inefficiency" after Hurricane Maria. She implored the president, who is set to visit the U.S. territory on Tuesday, to "make sure somebody is in charge that is up to the task of saving lives."

Donald Trump waives Jones Act To Speed Up help to Puerto Rico

The Trump administration will waive federal restrictions on foreign ships' transportation of cargo to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Twitter Thursday that President Donald Trump has "authorized the Jones Act be waived for Puerto Rico." She says Trump is responding to a request from the governor, and it "will go into effect immediately."

The Jones Act is a little-known federal law that prohibits foreign-flagged ships from shuttling goods between U.S. ports. Republicans and Democrats have pushed Trump to waive the Jones Act, saying it could help get desperately needed supplies delivered to the island more quickly and at less cost.
