While you were sleeping last night, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber were engaging in a comment war on Instagram—and all of it was captured by fans in screenshots.
It started when Bieber posted a series of photos with model (and reported new girlfriend) Sophia Richie. Fans, who notoriously have been hard pressed to let #Jelena go, began posting negative comments about the new woman in Justin's life. This prompted Bieber to change the caption on one of the posts. He wrote, "I'm gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don't stop the hate. This is getting out of hand. If you guys are really fans, you wouldn't be so mean to people that I like."
See for yourself below.
Not only did this comment lead a to slew of backlash from Beliebers, but it also clearly caught the attention of Gomez. Her response to Bieber's threat? "If you can't handle the hate, then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend," she allegedly wrote (according to fan screenshots). "It should be special between you two only. Don't be mad at your fans. They love you."
And to further drive home her point, Gomez took to her own Instagram, posting a few sweet photos of herself with her fans.
The fact that Gomez would publicly engage with Bieber was surprising enough, but then Bieber was quick to respond to her comments. Following Gomez's comment, he allegedly wrote, "It's funny to to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love." This one especially stings, considering Gomez has made multiple attempts to distance herself from Bieberfollowing their breakup in 2014.
Bieber then wrote in a separate comment, "I'm not one for anyone receiving hate. Hope you all can be kind to my friends and each other. And yes, I love my beliebers."
And then Gomez might have declared all-out Instagram war on Bieber. In her latest comment on the post, she reportedly accuses Bieber of cheating on her more than once while they were dating. (Although some reports say this comment was faked.)
"Funny how the one that cheated multiple times [is] pointing the finger at the ones that were forgiving and supportive, no wonder fans are mad. Sad. All love."
Mic drop.
