Just a year after parting ways with husband Gavin Rossdale and starting a love affair with her The Voice co-star Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani says she’s doing better than ever. The musician-turned-TV-personality chatted with People about what has changed and how she stays grounded.
“I don’t really feel like I live in the Hollywood craziness,” she said. “I have my regular life, my house, my school runs … I love family time.”
But beyond looking after her three boys — Kingston, 10,Zuma, 8, and Apollo, 2 — music has also been a hug source of strength as she moved beyond her marriage.
“Honestly, I was trying to help myself first and I didn’t have any vision about what the outcome would be when I was in the middle of it,” said Stefani about writing her latest album This Is What the Truth Feels Like. “It was about getting out what I needed to get out and using my gift to try to heal myself.”
Although parting with Rossdale last year was understandably painful, the 47-year-old explained during the interview that it was exactly what she needed.
“I feel like I’m in the next chapter moving into the next phase of whatever just happened,” she said. “Even though that year was challenging, it was also one of my favorite things that ever happened to me.”
So what’s next for the stunning songstress? The sky’s the limit! She’s executive producing the new animated series Kuu Kuu Harajuku, going strong with Shelton and always on the look out for the next big opportunity.
“I’m the happiest I’ve ever been,” she declared. “I’m in a good place and I’m so excited. There’s always amazing things to come.”
