Malia Obama told dad Barack to 'just be cool' when a boy she liked came to pick her up for prom night

Michelle Obama's new novel 'Becoming' is causing waves all over the country and, apart from giving a stinging criticism of Donald Trump, the book also speaks about quite a few sweet moments that the former First Family shared, including untold details about daughter Malia’s prom night. According to the book, which officially hits the stands on Tuesday, a 16-year-old Malia reportedly begged the First Lady and the President to "be cool" on her special night. “Just be cool please, okay?” she said to her parents.

In 2015 spring, Malia told her parents that she’d been invited to prom “by a boy she kind of liked,” wrote Michelle in the book. At the time, Malia and her sister Sasha, who were inherently First Daughters owing to their father's presidential post, weren’t permitted to travel in vehicles with anyone who wasn’t in the Secret Service.

But, for that particular day, Barack decided to make an "exception" for his daughter's sake. “On the appointed evening, her date arrived in his car,” the former first lady wrote. She added, “...clearing security at the southeast gate of the White House, following the path up and around the South Lawn by which heads of state and other visiting dignitaries normally arrived, and then gamely — bravely — walking into the Dip Room dressed in a black suit.”
It was then that Malia asked her parents to be cool. “Her embarrassment [had] already [begun] to smolder as we rode the elevator downstairs,” she wrote in the book. “I was barefoot, and Barack was in flip-flops. Malia wore a long black skirt and an elegant bare-shouldered top. She looked beautiful and about twenty-three years old.”

While Malia “still laughs” and remembers their encounter with her date as “a bit excruciating,” Michelle says in her book that she and her husband did manage to pull off their daughter’s request after all. However, there is a special reason as to how the former president was able to calmly handle the situation, something he discussed in a 2016 interview.
“The truth is, I’m pretty relaxed about it for two reasons,” he said at the time. “One is Michelle — she’s such a great example of how she carries herself, her self-esteem, not depending on boys to validate how you look or not letting yourself be judged by anything other than your character and intelligence.” He added, “Hopefully I’ve been a good example in terms of how I show respect to my wife.” The second reason he doesn’t worry about his daughters is more straightforward: “They have Secret Service.”

When remembering Malia’s prom night, Michelle also delved into how she also took comfort in knowing her daughter had a Secret Service detail. “Barack and I shook the young man’s hand, snapped a few pictures, and gave our daughter a hug before sending them on their way,” she wrote.
“We took what was perhaps unfair comfort in the knowledge that Malia’s security detail would basically ride the boy’s bumper all the way to the restaurant where they were going for dinner before the dance and would remain on quiet duty throughout the night.”

Malia Obama spotted dancing outside Boston club as she hits the town on a girls' night out

She may be the former first daughter of the country, but she is just like any other 20-year-old. On Wednesday, Malia Obama was spotted enjoying a night out on the town with her girlfriends at a Boston nightclub.

In footage obtained by DailyMailTV, the 20-year-old Harvard student was seen gleefully dancing and laughing outside of Royale Nightclub in the early hours of the day after attending a concert of R&B artist Masego.

Getting a bit jiggy, Malia chatted away with her three girl pals who were enjoying a cigarette break. The animated conversation with her pals saw her bounce up and down in excitement.
Her British boyfriend Rory Farquharson was nowhere in sight, but reports say that Malia hugged a male friend who joined the group as they waited outside the venue.
The second-year student looked very much like an Ivy League student scholar sporting a black coat, dark jeans, with a white shirt collar popping out of her sweater.
Despite her world-famous father, passersbys hardly took notice of Malia while she casually danced unbothered with her friends in the middle of the street.

But an anonymous cab driver recognized her and couldn't resist catching the moment on video.
He told Daily Mail: "I couldn't believe it was her. I've seen her on TV since she was a little girl. I was amazed that there was nobody else around her. She was just there with her friends, hanging outside the club, being a normal girl, jumping up around and dancing. But it's not surprising that she was at the Royale. It's a popular place to go on a night out in Boston, where all the cool kids go."

Chelsea Clinton and Ivanka Trump Came To Malia Obama Defense After A Smoke Rings Video Surfaces

People are slamming conservative website the Daily Caller after they wrote about a video that appears to show former first daughter Malia Obama blowing smoke rings "in an undisclosed bathroom location."

The site said the video was originally uploaded to Instagram (then deleted) by Barstool Sports on Thanksgiving, but they included a YouTube version in their story.

The 19-year-old Harvard student has also had to endure tabloid attention recently after video emerged of her kissing a young man at a football game.

After the Daily Caller wrote about what appeared to be the leaked Snapchat video of Obama blowing smoke rings, many people attacked the conservative website.

WATCH: The Daily Caller has nothing better to do than hassle a college student

They argued the children of presidents should be off-limits to the press, unless they actively insert themselves into politics.

Adult children of POTUS have been fair game since GWB. Deal with it.
Nope. Unacceptable. Like I said, whether Republican or Democrat, adults or minors, unless they have inserted themselves into politics, they should be off limits. Respect their right to privacy. They did not ask for any of the attention.

They also pointed out that the Daily Caller has an entire section called "the Daily Vaper."

The Daily Caller has an entire section dedicated to the Alt-Right favorite pastime of Vaping but Malia Obama smoking is sooo awful.

Hmmm... I wonder what's different about her?!

Current first daughter Ivanka Trump even stepped up to defend Obama on Twitter. "She is a young adult and private citizen, and should be OFF limits," Trump wrote.

Malia Obama should be allowed the same privacy as her school aged peers. She is a young adult and private citizen, and should be OFF limits.

And Chelsea Clinton was right behind her, writing that Malia Obama "should not be your clickbait."

Malia Obama’s private life, as a young woman, a college student, a private citizen, should not be your clickbait. Be better.

Many people argued that Obama's smoke rings paled in comparison to the alleged wrongdoings by Donald Trump Jr.

Saddened to wake up to the news that Malia Obama held secret meetings with Russians and subverted our democracy.

Damn, The Daily Caller is desperate...

Last time I checked Malia Obama is a private citizen and she didn't break any laws, but we know some certain folks who did... I'm not saying, I'm just sayin'...

But others were just impressed by Obama's mad skills.

*adds another thing to the list of ways Malia Obama is more talented than me*

The only thing I find offensive about about Malia Obama blowing smoke rings is that it confirms she’s so much cooler than I was at 19.

Hip hop artist Common had probably the best response to all of this.
