What you need to do when you drop your phone in the snow and you need to act quickly

Love it or loath it, most people have probably had to spend a bit of time in the snow over the last few days.
Whether it's building snowmen and having snowball fights, or walking to work while complaining about how everything falls apart as soon as it gets a bit cold, there's been no avoiding it.
But there's one thing you need to be extra careful with - your mobile phone.

It can meet an icy end if you drop it in the snow, but according to online smartphone retailer Mobiles.co.uk there are a few things you can do to try and save it.

Be quick

The longer your phone is submerged and wet the more likely you are to lose it forever.
Pick it up immediately, turn it off and take out the SIM card and battery (if it's a removable one). Wrap your phone up in something soft - kitchen roll is ideal but if not your gloves will do.

Dry the insides

Use a soft towel to gently sponge the water out. When you're doing this it's really important not to move or shake your phone as it could make the water go further in.

Remove any leftover water

If there's lots of water in your phone you can use the vacuum cleaner to get it our. Make sure you hold it at a reasonable distance.
But NEVER use a hairdryer - this will just blow the water inside even further.

Find some silica

You know those little packets of balls you get in deliveries? They're normally in new shoe boxes or tech equiment. Find some!

Silica gel can really save the day as it absorbs water. Put your phone in a sealed sandwich bag with as many of the little packets as you can find.
If you don't have any, you can use rice. Put your phone in a bowl of rice and rotate it every few hours. You'll need to do this for at least a day, but the longer you can leave it the better.

Wait

The worst thing that can happen to a water-damaged phone is that it short circuits, so it's really important not to switch it back on.
The longer you leave it the better.

home Remedies for curing Hair Fungus

Infections caused by fungus can happen from time to time. It’s not limited to your kitchen space alone but it can also affect your body too. When it strikes, you are sure to feel uncomfortable especially when there is itching and pain to deal with. You might be surprised but hair fungus can also occur especially when your scalp is filled with oil, dead cells, and even pollutants which make it the perfect breeding ground for fungi. You shouldn’t be surprised to find ringworm on your scalp when you don’t protect your hair. When fungi appear on your scalp, it can become quite itchy, flaky, and even dry too. So how will you be able to remedy this problem?

Neem Oil

Neem Oil is a common component in many Ayurvedic treatments and one of its uses is to treat hair fungus. In this recipe, you will need 2 to 3 tablespoons of coconut oil and a teaspoon of neem oil. You will need to combine the oils together before applying on your hair and scalp. Let it sit overnight. You can cover your hair with a shower cap so as not to stain your pillows. Rinse hair in the morning. This treatment should be done once every 3 days until the hair fungus disappears. Neem oil is known for its antimicrobial properties so this is a useful treatment for removing fungal infections.

Apple Cider Vinegar

What’s great about apple cider vinegar is that it contains antiseptic, anti-inflammatories, and antimicrobial properties that can help treat hair fungus. ACV can regulate the pH levels of your scalp so that there will be less oil being produced. You can mix some rosemary, green tea, fresh lemon juice, as well as apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle and shake until the ingredients have combined completely. Spray this solution on your scalp and let it soak for 40 minutes. Rinse your hair afterwards. You can repeat this treatment several times in a week until you have treated your scalp completely.

Castor Oil

Castor oil is recommended for treating hair fungus as it contains antifungal properties that can easily eliminate the fungal growth on your scalp. It also conditions the skin so this is another plus when using this product. All you will need is castor oil and cotton ball to apply the oil on the affected area. Use gloves when applying this product on the infected area so as not to spread the infection on other parts of your body. Leave the oil on the infection for an hour before rinsing your hair thoroughly. Use a blow dryer to dry your hair afterwards to prevent the fungus from spreading.
These home remedies can easily eliminate the problem with regular use. What’s great about these remedies is that they are all safe to use so you can use them any time you want without worrying about any side effects.

Hair Color Concepts for Long Haired Women in 2018

We are all looking forward to changing something in our look every time the New Year rolls in. And in 2018, there are still a lot of women who would like to try something new when it comes to their hair. You’ve probably been looking at fashion shows to see models sporting new hairstyles and hair color and are wondering which one to try out this year. Well, there are quite a lot of options for you to choose from especially when you have long hair and for sure, you will love these new hair trends for 2018.

Salt and pepper hair

Noticed that your hair is starting to become grey already? Well, you can turn it to your advantage by transforming your hair into salt and pepper. This combination is actually easy to pull off with your long hair by dyeing parts of your hair in black and white or grey. The changing colors will give your hair that extra beauty especially when you tie in your hair in a braid.

Contrasting roots

If you don’t want to worry about maintaining your hair color then try soft contrasting roots. For example, if you are switching from brunette to blonde, go for the soft brown roots and baby hairs and leaving the color of your eyebrows alone too. This gives a softer look to your hair and will reduce the need for maintenance as you grow it out.

Tiger eye

Another hair color idea to try out with your long hair is the tiger eye. What’s great about this look is that it combines honey, soft brown, and amber in a balayage technique that boosts one’s overall confidence. The beautiful combination will not make it hard for you to grow your hair longer and it will not require much maintenance too. Harsh roots won’t be a problem too when you opt for this hair color combination.

Beige

If you want a subtle shade that will go well with your skin tone then why not try beige? Instead of the usual blonde that many women love to change their hair to, opt for the softer and lighter shade of blonde. Just make sure that it is close to your skin tone to get the dramatic effect that you’re looking for.

Chocolate mauve

Who would have thought that the combination of brown and light pink is going to be stunning? If you are a brunette who would like to change up your hair color then this is worth a shot. The light pink gives a different kind of highlight to your hair and will work beautifully for those with long locks. Just make sure that they are done properly to get the most out of this color combination.

Peanut butter and jelly

Yes, your favorite sandwich combination can also be used on your hair. What’s great about this hair color idea is that it this two-tone look combines golden brown with shades of purple. You’ll see that your hair resembles that of peanut butter and jelly with every toss of your head.

Nude hair

It’s nice to give your hair a makeover for 2018 but if you don’t want to be bothered with maintenance then nude hair is worth a shot. The goal of this hair color is to be soft and natural to complement your skin tone. This is actually a good shade if you are aiming for something subtle but would still look good on you.
These hair color ideas are just perfect for those who want or need a change this new year. If you want to get the most of these shades, have a professional do your hair for you.

How to Naturally Remove Corns and Calluses

Corns and calluses can make you uncomfortable. A callus is a thickened area of the skin that has become dry and tough because of recurrent friction. Sometimes, it is caused by irritation. It can appear on your hands and feet, but mostly found on the feet especially if you walk most of the time. Corns also appear on the feet, usually between your toes or on top of them. Oftentimes, corns appear because you wear ill-fitting shoes.

How to Know if You Have Corns or Calluses

It is actually quite easy to tell if you have a corn or callus. Simply look at your feet or your hands. If you see that there is a hard, thick, and dry skin that appears yellowish or grayish, you have a corn. Sometimes, there are corns that are quite sensitive to the touch when compared to the surrounding skin. There are two types of corn: soft and hard. The soft corn appears as if it is an open sore, while a hard corn is thick and firm with a yellow ring and a grayish center.

While corns and calluses are there to help protect your damage-prone areas, their existence is not really welcome. They cause aggravation and sometimes pain, so you may want to remove them as quickly as possible. You don’t need to use commercially available products to treat them because here is one remedy that has been proven to remove corns and calluses.

The Treatment

You only need houseleeks and one Band-Aid to eliminate the nuisance on your feet or hands. Houseleeks are found on walls or rocks. Some people actually grow them in their homes, welcoming them in pots right at the roof of their houses. Once you have located houseleeks, do the following steps:
1. Prepare one slip of houseleek.
2. Get rid of the thin skin around it. You can easily do this with just one hand.
3. Once the skin is off, put the houseleek slip directly to your corn.
4. Secure the houseleek in place with a Band-Aid.
5. It is recommended that you do this in the morning, so that when the evening comes, you can replace the houseleek with a new one. Don’t remove until the next day.

Continue with the treatment for a few days. When done correctly you will notice that at least three corns will be removed along with the roots. This treatment has been proven to be effective and best of all, it is safe and very cheap.

DIY Remedies for Belly Button Odor

Especially if you have a deep belly button, it can be very easy for moisture and dirt to collect in it — it’s practically a playground for odor-causing bacteria! Paired with poor hygiene practices, your belly button can become smelly quite very easily, and knowing that you have a stinky belly button can rob you of your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Fret not because it’s actually very easy to deal with that repulsive belly button odor with a few home remedies. So without wasting any more time, here are some of the things that you may try to have an odor-free belly button:

Lukewarm Salt Water

In a cup of lukewarm water, dissolve a teaspoon of sea salt. Once dissolved, use a small cotton ball to wash your belly button with it — feel free to use a cotton swab if necessary. Lukewarm salt water possesses antimicrobial and disinfecting properties, helping to keep your belly button odor-free especially when it’s cleaned once a day.

Baking Soda

Adding a few drops of water to a little baking soda allows you to come up with an odor-busting paste that’s perfect for dealing with a smelly belly button. Allow the paste to stay in place for about 20 minutes before rinsing it off with water. Or you may actually leave the paste there — just repeat the entire procedure later on.

Cornstarch

After taking a shower, dry your belly button thoroughly. Dust cornstarch in it to keep it from becoming smelly — because cornstarch is very good at keeping moisture away, then bacteria won’t find your belly button as a nice environment to multiply in. Aside from cornstarch, you may also use talcum powder or baking soda.

Coconut Oil

There are many different skin issues that coconut oil can deal with, and a foul-smelling belly button is one of those. All you have to do is daub a little coconut oil on your belly button using a cotton swab. Especially if there’s an ongoing infection, coconut oil can help keep it from progressing.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Placing a few drops of apple cider vinegar into your belly button is a great way to keep it from smelling horrid. That’s because apple cider vinegar is a powerful fighter of bacteria that can leave your belly button smelly. It’s a good idea to allow apple cider vinegar to stay in your belly button for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it off.

Witch Hazel

Using a cotton swab, apply a little witch hazel to your belly button — it has superb antimicrobial properties that zap odor-causing bacteria, plus it also has a nice smell to it. If you have sensitive skin, it is a good idea to have witch hazel dissolved in equal amounts of water prior to application.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Once or twice a day, you may instill a few drops of hydrogen peroxide (3% only) into your belly button. This home remedy is especially helpful if the odor is caused by an infection. Allow hydrogen peroxide plenty of time to froth, which is an indicator that it’s working. After a few minutes, clean your belly button with cotton.

The 7 Best Effective Ways to Rewire Your Brain

Science has found that affirmations work, that our brains are malleable and can be rewired by our thoughts. Fortunately for us, with practice, we can control our thoughts. Using positive affirmations is a quick and effective way to change our thought patterns and, subsequently, our brain activity, to move toward our goals. Here are seven ways to rewire your brain with affirmations.
1. Subliminals – What You Can’t Hear Can Help You
Subliminal recordings may be the key for many of us who do not have the time to devote to a stand-alone affirmations practice. Perfect for multi-taskers, positive self-talk is one of the few personal development practices that can be done while at work, driving, working out or surfing the Internet. Research has shown that subliminal messages make their way into our brains without our being conscious of them. Now you can listen to soothing, unobtrusive music while absorbing the positive affirmations recorded just below the level of auditory perception.
2. The Power of the Pen
Practicing affirmations does not need to be complicated – pen and paper are easy, effective tools to start your journey. Written affirmations may even work better because writing something down has more permanence than thoughts or spoken words. Written declarations tend to wield more power than spoken ones, so try jotting your affirmation ten (or more) times every day.
3. Get Personal
A simple Google search will produce thousands of websites with generic affirmations that can and do work. But consider taking the time to reflect upon your unique desires, and craft your own heartfelt and heart-centered affirmations. The form does not need to be a short, declarative sentence – many people, particularly creative types, prefer intricately personalized forms of self-communication such as songs, poems and prayers. This practice offers the dual benefits of activating your creativity while imprinting affirmations into your mind.
4. If You Believe It, You Will Receive It
A study conducted by The Lerner Research Institute found that mental training significantly enhances a higher activation level in muscles and increases strength. Elite athletes and prominent public figures use visualization techniques, which are considered a form of affirmation. Visualize the desired outcome in your mind. Repeat the visualization dozens or even hundreds of times. This practice will reconfigure the “neural net” in your brain and create new, stronger thought pathways, and your desired result will manifest sooner than you think.

5. Tap an App
We are fortunate that technology is available to help us obtain our personal development goals! There are hundreds of smart phone apps to enhance spiritual practice. Our favorite, of course, is “Unique Daily Affirmations” which you can program to set phone alerts or send email reminders.
6. Take Advantage of Technology
Another way to harness technology for your spiritual practice is to use the tools already installed on your smartphone.
  • Once you have developed a personalized affirmation, record it using the voice memo feature. Listen to you affirmation several times throughout the day.
  • Set a reminder that will appear regularly on your iPhone screen.
  • Set a notification to sound every hour, and repeat your affirmation when you hear the ring.
7. Out of the Mouths of Babes
If all else fails, start your day like Jessica!
